Hala Badri Visits Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert Festival and Meets Participating Creatives

Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), recently attended the fourth edition of the Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert Festival, held at the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. Organized by Dubai Culture, the festival aims to enhance the local film industry by providing a platform for both established and emerging filmmakers to showcase their works to diverse audiences. This visit highlights Dubai Culture’s ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and fostering skill development, in line with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy.

The 2025 edition of the festival, running until January 12, is themed ‘Where Stories Come To Life’ and features more than 80 narrative films, along with musical performances, interactive workshops, and panel discussions featuring renowned directors and cinema experts. Badri toured the festival’s exhibits, which also included murals and installations by artists Ghaleb Hawila, Abdulla Lutfi, and Mikhail Antykov, as well as cutting-edge AI-powered art displays.

During her visit, Badri interacted with filmmakers, directors, and participants, expressing admiration for the diversity of the showcased works and noting how they contribute to the vibrant and growing art scene in Dubai. She emphasized that these efforts align with Dubai Culture’s goal of establishing the city as a global cultural leader, while continuing to nurture local talent, create sustainable artistic growth, and stimulate innovation in the creative sectors.

The festival also boasts live performances by prominent artists such as Saif Al Ali, Alya Alshamsi, Jaber Al Maazmi, Naser Amir, Humaid Al Aleeli, and Mariam Al Shamsi, offering audiences a unique blend of musical entertainment that reflects the heritage and evolving cultural landscape of the UAE.

Food lovers at the festival can explore a wide array of Emirati and international cuisines, featuring local favorites and global flavors. Notable offerings include Presto by Chef Maitha, serving locally inspired dishes and seasonal treats; PDL Coffee Co. and Grain Cafe for coffee enthusiasts; Machu Picchu, a Peruvian restaurant with a modern twist; and Estkanah Chai, known for traditional Emirati teas and delicacies. Other food options include GatherOn, Aptitude, and food trucks offering cinema classics such as popcorn and nachos, with Chef Hanan catering a VIP gala dinner with traditional Emirati delicacies.

The event is made possible through collaboration with a diverse group of partners, including Dubai Mounted Police, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Ambulance, Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence, Roads and Transport Authority, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, The Climate Tribe, Emirates Airlines, Zayed University, Sandooq Al Watan, Maraya, Freej, and Immersee, among others.
