VOX Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates Becomes Middle East's First Fully Accessible Cinema

Majid Al Futtaim has announced that VOX Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates has become the first fully accessible cinema in the Middle East after receiving the Wosool Accessibility Certification from Dubai Municipality.

The flagship cinema is the first facility in the GCC to earn the Certificate of Compliance with Accessibility Regulations for Existing Buildings (Wosool), recognising its adherence to Dubai's accessibility standards and inclusive design requirements.

The certification confirms that the cinema now offers fully accessible facilities for People of Determination, allowing them to enjoy all cinema services across every auditorium with greater ease, comfort and independence.

The upgraded venue includes a range of accessibility features such as easy-access doors, accessible ramps at entrances and exits, adapted restroom facilities, dedicated service counters, accessible seating areas inside auditoriums and enhanced wayfinding systems. These improvements are designed to provide a seamless cinema experience while ensuring equal access for all visitors.

Ignace Lahoud, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, described the certification as a significant milestone in the company's commitment to inclusive entertainment.

He said the achievement reflects the company's vision of creating memorable experiences for everyone while embedding accessibility into its destinations through its sustainability strategy, "Dare Today, Change Tomorrow."

Lahoud added that the company aims to go beyond regulatory compliance by developing spaces where every visitor feels supported, valued and able to enjoy their experience without barriers.

Following the certification, Majid Al Futtaim plans to introduce similar accessibility enhancements across its remaining VOX Cinemas locations, further expanding inclusive entertainment experiences throughout the region.

The Wosool Service was introduced alongside the Dubai Universal Design Code as part of the "My Community... A City for Everyone" initiative launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make Dubai more accessible for People of Determination.

Under current regulations, obtaining the Wosool Certificate has become a mandatory requirement for buildings and facilities across Dubai. The certification confirms compliance with the accessibility standards outlined in the Dubai Building Code, helping ensure that public spaces provide safe, inclusive and accessible environments for People of Determination, older adults and children.
