GEMS School Creates Worlds Largest Human Image of an Organ to Raise Awareness on Lung Diseases
Dubai, UAE: Breaking a Guinness World Records title, 3,196 students from GEMS Cambridge International School - Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of the Emirates Allergy and Respiratory Society of the UAE, and funded by Novartis, created the Worlds Largest Human Image of an Organ. The previous world record set for a large human lung, was produced by more than 1,500 volunteers in Beijing.
The purpose of the occasion was to create understanding about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - a harmful disease connected with morbidity and mortality.
The World Health Organization (WHO) approximates that 210 million individuals worldwide have COPD and deaths from COPD are forecasted to raise over the next One Decade by greater than 30 per cent unless underlying threat aspects are addressed.
Kelvin Hornsby, Principal and CEO of GEMS Cambridge International School - Abu Dhabi, said: "At GEMS our team believe that education is the edge rock in the development of a country. We really hope that developing recognition of a deadly lung condition that is on the surge in the region through the setup of a world record will certainly draw every person's attention to this problem."
Mohamed Ezz Elin, Gulf Cluster Moving towards Novartis pharmaceuticals, stated: "COPD is a progressive disease and can be serious. It makes it challenging for patients to take a breath, with symptoms that have a destructive influence on the quality of life. Consequently, one of Novartis' major emphasis is to focus on understanding on COPD, and we would like to make sure that any individual influenced by COPD becomes aware the importance of very early and proper diagnosis in addition to suitable and reliable monitoring of such a problem."
Last week, 2,223 GEMS Education students created the 'Largest Human Transforming Image to pay tribute the UAE on its 45th National Day.
