GAS Launches 'Sports Talent' Platform to Empower Promising UAE Athletes
The General Authority of Sports (GAS) has unveiled the 'Sports Talent' platform as part of its 'Empowerment and Sustainability of Sports Talents' initiative. This groundbreaking online platform aims to discover and support 1,500 promising sports talents, in line with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision and the National Sports Strategy 2031. The platform seeks to create an inclusive environment that nurtures the potential of young athletes across the UAE.
Visionary Leadership and Commitment
His Excellency Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Director-General of GAS, highlighted the initiative's goal to expand sports engagement for talented individuals. “With the ‘Sports Talent’ platform, we aim to foster a sports culture and develop a professional mindset among promising talents. Our efforts are aligned with the ‘Year of Sustainability’ and the broader goals of ensuring the sustainability of sports talents in the UAE,” he said.
HE Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at GAS, emphasized the importance of the platform in creating a comprehensive database of sports talents. “The platform is open to all young talents, whether they are currently participating in sporting events or not. It will serve as the primary communication channel with talented athletes across the UAE,” he noted.
Platform Capabilities and Goals
The 'Sports Talent' platform is designed to collect and analyze data on sports talents from the initial registration phase through to the empowerment stage. By collaborating with sports organizations and educational institutions, the platform aims to connect skilled athletes with the right opportunities. This initiative will help identify sports talents in different age categories, monitor and document programs for talent identification, and boost the number of participants in these programs.
Strategic Impact and National Ambitions
The platform is part of a broader effort to develop a competitive sports environment in the UAE. By providing financial and administrative support, GAS aims to enhance the prospects of athletes aspiring to qualify for the Olympics and other international competitions. The National Sports Strategy 2031 aims to qualify over 30 Emirati athletes for the 2032 Olympic Games.
Criteria for Success
GAS has outlined several criteria to improve the identification and support of sporting talents. These include:
- Developing strategies for the early identification of gifted individuals.
- Regular assessments and scientific evaluations of talents.
- Continuous support through training camps and participation in national and international events.
- Ongoing monitoring and performance development of athletes.
