FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem Meets Montenegrin Prime Minister to Boost Motorsport and Road Safety Collaboration

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, met with Milojko Spajić in Tivat to strengthen cooperation between the FIA and Montenegro across motorsport, mobility, and road safety initiatives.

The meeting provided a platform to explore collaboration aligned with Montenegro’s national priorities, with a strong focus on leveraging motorsport as a driver of economic growth and tourism development.

Motorsport Growth to Drive Economy and Tourism

Discussions highlighted the potential for expanding Montenegro’s motorsport sector to boost visitor numbers, enhance the country’s international profile, and contribute to economic development. Both leaders emphasised the importance of ensuring that events are conducted with a focus on safety and sustainability.

Advancing Road Safety Through Data and Technology

A key area of discussion was Montenegro’s ambition to become a regional leader in road safety. Ben Sulayem outlined how the FIA supports countries through data-driven tools such as the FIA Road Safety Index (RSI), which uses advanced analytics and AI to monitor and improve road safety outcomes.

Both sides agreed that technology and data insights are critical to reducing accidents, improving infrastructure, and enhancing safety for everyday road users.

Tackling Online Abuse in Motorsport

The meeting also addressed the importance of digital safety, with a focus on the FIA’s United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) campaign. The initiative aims to promote respectful online behaviour and protect users—particularly young people and those involved in sport—from harmful digital interactions.

Strengthening Long-Term Collaboration

Commenting on the meeting, Ben Sulayem said Montenegro has strong potential to lead in road safety and reaffirmed the FIA’s commitment to supporting the country through innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

The discussions took place alongside the FIA Region I Spring Meeting in Budva, hosted by the Auto-Moto Association of Montenegro. The three-day gathering brought together representatives from 102 FIA Member Clubs across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to advance safe and sustainable mobility for road users and motorsport communities.
