Dubai Esports & Games Festival Celebrates Emerging Talent Through Imagination Heroes and Game Changers Challenges
The Dubai Esports & Games Festival (DEF) has announced the winners of its Game Changers and Dubai Culture Imagination Heroes challenges, recognizing exceptional young talent across gaming, digital arts, and technology as part of its Educational Engagement Programme.
Organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), a part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the programme was designed to connect students with opportunities in gaming, technology, and digital industries while bridging the gap between education and real-world career pathways.
The winners were honoured during a special ceremony held on the opening day of GameExpo at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event was attended by His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, alongside senior officials and industry representatives.
Highlighting the importance of nurturing future talent, Khalfan Belhoul reaffirmed the Dubai Sports Council’s commitment to supporting young innovators and digital sports enthusiasts.
“Supporting innovators in digital sports and esports is one of the cornerstones of the Dubai Sports Council’s strategy, which aims to cultivate a new generation of champions and future leaders,” he said. “We are committed to creating an environment that empowers young people to transform their passion into tangible achievements while strengthening Dubai’s position as a global destination for digital sports and innovation.”
Belhoul noted that the creativity demonstrated through the Imagination Heroes and Game Changers challenges reflects the successful collaboration between Dubai’s educational, sports, and technology sectors. He added that such initiatives align closely with the objectives of the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, which seeks to develop talent and support future champions capable of competing on a global stage.
The Dubai Culture Imagination Heroes Challenge, supported by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, attracted an impressive 4,032 entries from students aged five to 18. Participants were tasked with creating original characters and immersive fictional worlds through various creative formats, including drawings, digital artwork, physical models, and short video concepts.
Judges praised the exceptionally high standard of submissions, highlighting participants’ imagination, artistic skills, and innovative storytelling abilities.
Meanwhile, the Game Changers Challenge attracted 3,335 students aged 10 to 17, who worked in teams of up to five members to develop solutions to real-world and simulated challenges. The competition encouraged critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and innovation, with shortlisted finalists presenting their ideas directly to a judging panel during GameExpo.
Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, emphasized the initiative’s role in nurturing creative talent and strengthening Dubai’s growing creative economy.
“The Imagination Heroes Challenge highlights the remarkable creativity, innovation, and potential of young talent in digital arts, design, and creative content,” she said. “It demonstrates the importance of providing platforms that empower emerging creators to express their ideas, develop their skills, and transform concepts into meaningful projects with real-world impact.”
Al Suwaidi added that the quality of submissions reflected the tremendous potential of young people to contribute to the future of the creative and digital sectors while supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy.
Muna Al Falasi, Director of Esports and Games Strategy at DFRE, also praised the participants, noting that the exceptional quality of entries across both competitions demonstrated the strength of Dubai’s emerging talent pool.
“Students showcased creativity, innovation, imagination, and the ability to transform ideas into tangible outcomes,” she said. “These young participants represent the future workforce that will drive the growth of gaming, esports, and digital industries while contributing to Dubai’s economic development.”
Al Falasi noted that the programme was designed to provide practical, hands-on experiences that help students better understand career opportunities within rapidly expanding digital sectors.
The Educational Engagement Programme forms a key component of the Dubai Esports & Games Festival’s broader mission to position Dubai as a global hub for gaming, esports, digital innovation, and creative talent development. By offering young people opportunities to explore emerging industries and showcase their skills, the initiative continues to support the emirate’s vision of fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and future-ready talent.
With more than 7,300 students participating across both challenges, the programme has reinforced Dubai’s commitment to empowering the next generation of creators, innovators, and industry leaders.
