Festivals Malta Unveils Summer Festivals Programme for 2025
Festivals Malta has officially launched its highly anticipated Summer Festivals Events Programme for 2025, featuring a dynamic lineup of cultural events that will take place between May and July. The programme includes four major festivals: Ritmu Roots Festival, Malta International Arts Festival, Malta Jazz Festival, and Dance Festival Malta.
The announcement was made by Dr. Owen Bonnici, Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, who emphasized the cultural and economic impact of the initiative. “This coming summer, through Festivals Malta, our country will host four prestigious festivals that strengthen our cultural identity and provide a platform for both local and international artists,” said Dr. Bonnici. “These high-level events enrich the summer season and attract thousands of visitors, benefiting both the economy and social wellbeing.”
Chairman of Festivals Malta, Aaron Zahra, highlighted the significance of these festivals in enhancing Malta’s appeal as a cultural hub. “Each year, Festivals Malta curates a cultural calendar that reflects artistic excellence,” Zahra stated. “These summer festivals serve both the local community and international visitors, reinforcing our position as a sought-after cultural destination.”
Frans Agius, CEO of Festivals Malta, reiterated the organization’s commitment to artistic diversity. “The summer festivals allow us to showcase different genres, ensuring culture remains inclusive and accessible,” he said, encouraging audiences to attend and enjoy the experiences prepared.

Ritmu Roots Festival (May 21–24):
Launching the summer programme, the third edition of Ritmu will spotlight traditional community activities and folk music. This year’s features include Il-Kummittiva, Għana (traditional Maltese singing), boċċi (bowls), and performances by international acts such as Tarta Relena, Pliri Ntaxei, and Vincent Moon. Artistic Director Andrew Alamango described it as “a platform where communities connect through music.”

Malta International Arts Festival (June 13–22):
A 10-day celebration of multidisciplinary arts including dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Noteworthy acts include the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Underground Valletta, M.A.D. – Music and Dance, and Boċċi the Musical. Artistic Director Ruben Zahra emphasized the festival's use of Malta’s historic venues to deliver a unique cultural experience.

Malta Jazz Festival (July 7–12):
Marking its 35th edition, the festival will present a rich lineup including Michael Mayo, Rebecca Martin, Peter Bernstein, and Knower. “The Malta Jazz Festival remains committed to eclecticism, integrity, and excellence,” noted Artistic Director Sandro Zerafa.

Dance Festival Malta (July 24–27):
A platform that brings together local and European dance artists for workshops, masterclasses, and performances. Artistic Director Francesca Tranter described it as “a meeting point of cultures and voices where the power of movement promotes connection and dialogue.”
