Ericsson Recognized as Leader in Omdia Market Landscape for Core Vendors 2024

Ericsson has been named the leader in the 2024 Market Landscape: Core Vendors analysis by Omdia, highlighting the company's continued innovation and dominance in the core network space. The recognition comes as Ericsson achieved the highest scores in key categories, including core portfolio breadth, cloud-native readiness, automation, and policy and charging, reinforcing its position as a top player in the 5G ecosystem.

Omdia’s assessment focused on two key dimensions—business performance and portfolio—with Ericsson ranking first in the portfolio category and second in business performance. The portfolio evaluation took into account several subcategories, such as portfolio breadth, cloud-native readiness, signaling, automation, core as SaaS, and policy and charging for 5G Core. Ericsson received the maximum score in core portfolio breadth, which covers both 4G/LTE and 5G network functions, and topped the rankings in cloud-native readiness for its work on containerized network functions (CNFs) for 5G Core.

Omdia noted that core portfolio breadth and cloud-native readiness are the most critical categories, with Ericsson excelling in both. The company also secured the top position in automation, due to its product upgrade automation solutions, and in policy and charging, reflecting the strength of its offerings in these areas.

Monica Zethzon, Head of Solution Area Core Networks at Ericsson, said: “This recognition is a testament to Ericsson’s commitment to innovation, high-performance, and automation in the 5G era. Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core and Cloud Core portfolio are designed to help our Communication Service Provider (CSP) customers transform their networks and take full advantage of cloud-native and automation technologies.”

The report further highlighted Ericsson’s strong business performance, noting its substantial market share in core revenue and its leadership in live 5G core deployments. Ericsson currently powers 34 of the 60+ commercially live 5G standalone (SA) networks, utilizing its cloud-native dual-mode 5G Core solution, which supports network slicing, service orchestration, and automated management.

This latest recognition follows Ericsson’s recent distinction as a leader in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G Core Network Infrastructure Solutions. The company's comprehensive core portfolio enables seamless migration from 4G to 5G, helping telecom operators evolve their networks efficiently and cost-effectively.
