Epson launches student recycling art contest for International Sustainability Day
Epson, a global technology leader, has launched the Epson ReCreators Contest, a region-wide sustainability initiative marking International Sustainability Day. The competition invites school students aged 10 to 15 to design and build artworks using recycled materials, including printed paper, highlighting the importance of creativity, responsible consumption, and climate awareness.
The Epson ReCreators Contest aims to merge innovation and environmental responsibility, encouraging students to transform waste into meaningful artistic creations. Participants will submit their entries through a dedicated microsite, where submissions will be evaluated by Epson leadership and local art curators.
The competition will take place across selected schools in Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, Türkiye, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Winners will receive an Epson prize bundle, including an EcoTank Printer, a Home Cinema Projector, and official merchandise from Epson’s brand ambassador, Shakira. Selected artworks will also be featured on Epson’s social media platforms and displayed at the company’s regional offices.
The campaign’s name, ReCreators, blends the words recycle and create, positioning students as change-makers who transform discarded materials into art that inspires. The contest’s guiding slogan — Reuse > Create > Inspire — captures the initiative’s essence: turning everyday waste into opportunities for creativity and learning.
“At Epson, creativity and care are central to our philosophy,” said Husam Alzughayyar, Sales Manager for the Middle East and Country Manager for Saudi Arabia at Epson. “This competition challenges students to view recyclable materials as tools for imagination. It’s not just about art — it’s about learning responsibility and awareness. Through the ReCreators Competition, we want young people to understand that small actions, like reusing and repurposing, can make a meaningful impact on our planet.”
Aligned with Epson META-CWA’s broader sustainability strategy, the initiative supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs):
-
SDG 4: Quality Education, by encouraging creative learning and skill-building.
-
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by promoting reuse and circularity.
-
SDG 13: Climate Action, by fostering climate literacy and behavior change among youth.
The campaign will be promoted through social media, school partnerships, and interviews highlighting educators, judges, and student winners. Ultimately, the contest aims to inspire a generation of young creators who view recycling not as waste management — but as a form of artistic expression that benefits both people and the planet.
