ENOC highlights safety and environmental best practices at 8th SIRE workshop in Dubai
Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) addressed the need for safety and pollution prevention in the shipping sector at the 8th Ship Inspection Report Exchange (SIRE) Programme held at the Hyatt Regency Creek Heights Hotel in Dubai.
SIRE programme is a uniform inspection system widely recognised by the marine industry, which is employed as one of the most important vetting tools to evaluate performance of vessels and their operators.
The SIRE programme is developed by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF), the foremost authority in providing tankers and marine terminals with a number of safety and pollution prevention guidelines outside the regulatory requirements that are mandated by the International Maritime Organisation.
Saif Al Falasi, Group CEO, ENOC, said in his opening speech: As an OCIMF member, ENOC has been involved in promoting the SIRE programme across its operations globally since the commencement of ENOC SIRE inspections in January 2008. ENOC believes that minimising risks to people, assets, and the surrounding community which may be affected by our operations is crucial, and we are proud to say we adhere to the highest health, safety and environment standards as we promote sustainable development.
The annual SIRE global event was attended by more than 95 professionals from across the industry. It served as an important platform for all users of the SIRE programme to discuss emerging industry issues, especially directives around safe ship-shore interface at logistics terminals.
Waddah Ghanem, Executive Director, EHS Security, Quality and Corporate Affairs, ENOC welcomed the audience before delivering a presentation titled Making Marine Operations Safer. He stressed how organisations in the marine oil & gas sector must maintain the highest levels of reliability and integrity in promoting safety and environmental best practices. He also emphasised how ENOCs commitment to a behaviour-based safety culture, with a strong focus on the importance of the quality of the tanker vessels used for transportation of hydrocarbons.
Ghanem said: The SIRE programme is a key event of the regional shipping sector and ENOC is delighted to be a core part of it. We will continue to lend our support to this initiative, where, this year, we highlighted the importance of safety and environmental best practices.
An OCIMF member, ENOC has been involved in promoting the SIRE programme across its operations globally. Since the commencement of SIRE inspections in January 2008, ENOC Marine EHS Compliance has organised successful workshops that highlight safety and pollution prevention.
