Emirati Mohammed Al Hakim appointed MultiBank Group vice chairman and MB.io CEO
MultiBank Group has appointed Emirati executive Mohammed Al Hakim as vice chairman of the group and chief executive officer of MB.io, as the financial derivatives institution expands its presence across traditional financial markets and digital assets.
Announced on November 2, 2026, the appointment will see Al Hakim work alongside Naser Taher, founder and chairman of MultiBank Group, to strengthen international partnerships, expand MB.io into new markets and broaden the institutional reach of MultiBank Exchange.
His responsibilities will include developing relationships with financial institutions, government entities and sovereign wealth funds, while advancing initiatives in real-world asset tokenisation, institutional trading and cross-border settlement solutions.
MultiBank Group reports $32 billion valuation
The appointment comes as MultiBank Group launches MultiBank Exchange and pursues its strategy to connect traditional financial markets with the digital economy.
According to figures disclosed by the group, MultiBank Group has a reported valuation of $32 billion (Dh117 billion) and trading volumes of $450 billion (Dh1.65 trillion). Peak daily trading volumes have reached $55 billion (Dh202 billion), the company said.
Al Hakim will oversee the expansion of MB.io, the group's cryptocurrency and digital asset trading platform, alongside efforts to develop MultiBank Exchange's institutional capabilities.
Al Hakim brings government and financial sector experience
Before joining MultiBank Group, Al Hakim served as president and general manager of Crypto.com, following a senior leadership role in the UAE federal government. He is also a graduate of the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Program.
During his tenure at Crypto.com, he led strategic partnerships with Emirates and Dubai Duty Free, extending the company's commercial reach across aviation and travel retail.
The partnerships led to the launch of Crypto.com Pay with Emirates in July 2026, allowing eligible customers in the UAE to pay for flights through the airline's website and app. Dubai Duty Free introduced the payment solution in August 2026, becoming the first airport retailer in the Middle East to offer it across its airport stores and online platform, according to the announcement.
Al Hakim also secured a Stored Value Facilities licence from the Central Bank of the UAE for Crypto.com, which the company described as a first for a cryptocurrency company.
Under his leadership, Crypto.com's monthly transaction volumes in the UAE increased 49-fold between January and December 2025, without a dedicated marketing budget, the announcement said.
He also advanced a digital payments initiative with Dubai's Department of Finance, including the launch of its pilot phase, and expanded relationships with regulators, banks, financial institutions and international companies.
Focus on institutional adoption and global expansion
Taher said Al Hakim's experience in regulatory environments, institutional markets and digital assets would support the group's international growth plans.
“Mohammed’s appointment represents an important step in our strategy to build a globally integrated financial ecosystem,” Taher said, adding that Al Hakim would help translate the group's ambitions into sustainable growth.
Al Hakim said his priorities would include expanding MB.io into new markets, developing MultiBank Exchange's institutional reach and building partnerships to support tokenisation, digital asset trading and financial infrastructure.
He added that the group would focus on developing practical, scalable solutions to support institutional adoption and connect financial markets worldwide.
