Dubai Residents Flock to Beaches for Fitness and Family Time Amid Summer Heat
With summer temperatures soaring in Dubai, residents are making the most of the city’s beaches to cool off, stay active, and enjoy family gatherings. Popular spots such as Kite Beach, Jumeirah Beach, and Al Mamzar Beach have been attracting crowds from late afternoons through late nights, especially over weekends.
The weekend rush typically begins on Friday afternoon and lasts until Sunday night. Temperatures drop slightly after 4:30 pm, prompting families, fitness enthusiasts, and groups of friends to head to the shore.
Fitness and Leisure at Kite Beach
Kite Beach has become a hub for those seeking a mix of exercise and relaxation. With jogging and cycling tracks, it draws people from across the city. Victor Boyle, a 41-year-old HR manager living in Al Barsha, visits the beach in the evenings for a 3 km run followed by a cooling session by the shore. “It’s the perfect stress buster,” he said, adding that weekend swims help him unwind.
Family Gatherings at Jumeirah and Al Mamzar Beaches
Jumeirah and Al Mamzar beaches offer a more laid-back atmosphere, appealing to families who often set up picnic spots in the evening. Filipino expatriate Anthony Cruz, a nurse living in Sharjah, visits with his wife and two children every Saturday. “The kids love playing in the shallow water, and it’s a relaxing, affordable outing that keeps them away from screens,” he said.
Night Beaches and Social Spots
Dubai’s night beaches, equipped with floodlights, allow safe swimming after sunset and create a cooler, calmer environment. Haroon Malik, a hotel manager from Dubai Marina, enjoys the peaceful ambiance at night and the opportunity to meet new people at beachfront cafés.
Safety Measures in Place
Lifeguards and beach patrols are stationed at popular spots to ensure public safety, advising visitors to stay hydrated and avoid swimming immediately after eating. Evenings are reported to have the heaviest footfall during summer.
