Dubai Municipality Launches Campaign to Remove Neglected Vehicles

Dubai Municipality has initiated a comprehensive field campaign to track and remove neglected vehicles and equipment across nine vehicle registration and testing centers in the Emirate. This initiative, in collaboration with strategic partners, aims to maintain hygiene, sustainability, and the distinctive aesthetic and cultural appearance of Dubai.

The targeted centers include Warsan Registration Centre, Al-Qusais Registration Centre, Shamil Muhaisnah Vehicle Testing and Registration Centre, Wasel Vehicles Testing Nadd Al Hammar, Tamam Vehicle Centre, Al-Aweir Motor Show, Al-Barsha Registration Centre, Al Mumayaz Vehicle Testing, and Wasel Al-Jadaf Centre.

During the campaign, Dubai Municipality issued 68 vehicle clearance alerts, 38 poster alerts, and 30 SMS notifications for discarded vehicles found in parking lots and courtyards. The campaign achieved a 95% response rate, effectively addressing and managing the situation.

Eng. Saeed Safar, Director of Waste Operations Department at Dubai Municipality, stated: “This campaign is part of the Municipality’s annual efforts to eliminate elements that may distort Dubai’s urban and aesthetic appeal and cause environmental harm. Additionally, the campaign aims to raise community awareness about the impact of damaged or neglected vehicles and the risks of their accumulation, promoting values of community responsibility to enhance the Emirate’s appeal and the aesthetics of public facilities. This supports our goals in integrated waste management, providing efficient municipal services in city hygiene, and making Dubai a more sustainable city.”

Over the previous month, Dubai Municipality assigned a monitoring team to track neglected vehicles and equipment, including all types of light and heavy vehicles, locomotives, trailers, boats, and various maritime equipment. The team, which includes members from the Road and Transport Authority and the Emirates' contracted parking company, is responsible for handling the transport and seizure of discarded vehicles.

Monitoring Procedures

Dubai Municipality’s monitoring team follows a series of administrative procedures, starting with issuing a warning for a period ranging from 3 to 15 days, depending on the location and condition of the vehicle. If the vehicle is registered in Dubai, an SMS will be sent to the owner to expedite the response. If the warning period elapses without action, the vehicle will be towed to the impoundment yard in the Al-Awir area. The owner can retrieve the vehicle before it is sold by the Committee for the Disposal of Abandoned Vehicles by completing the requisite procedures.

Responsibility and Awareness

Dubai Municipality continuously raises awareness through its media channels about the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, especially when traveling, and the need to find appropriate parking to avoid leaving vehicles neglected in public places.

The Municipality annually implements the community awareness campaign ‘My Vehicle’ under the slogan ‘Clean Vehicle, Sustainable City,’ aiming to reduce the abandonment of vehicles and equipment in public places and to raise awareness of the impact and risks associated with discarded vehicles.
