Dubai Culture's Summer Camps: A Fusion of Creativity and Learning for Young Minds
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has unveiled its summer camps scheduled for July and August, designed to foster creativity and learning among young minds. These camps, hosted across various Dubai Culture assets, aim to broaden the horizons of young participants by encouraging them to discover their talents and enhance their innovative spirit. This initiative aligns with the Authority's commitment to investing in future generations and creating a sustainable creative ecosystem that inspires and enriches knowledge.
The summer camps will take place at Al Shindagha Museum, Etihad Museum, and Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood over two weeks, from 15 to 19 July and 22 to 26 July. Activities will offer youngsters the opportunity to explore the past, learn about Emirati heritage, and understand the country's history and its founding story.
At the Al Shindagha Museum summer camp, children will immerse themselves in ancestral stories, discovering how innovations like wind towers helped overcome desert climate challenges. Participants will explore the Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood, learn about its unique structural designs, and engage in activities such as teamwork exercises, traditional water transportation methods, treasure hunts, and maritime adventures like pearl diving. The ‘Trade Challenge’ will introduce them to bartering, and they will create photo albums documenting their camp experience. A boat trip along Dubai Creek will educate them about its historical significance and role in Dubai's economic development.
The Etihad Museum Summer Camp will take youngsters on a journey back to 1968, exploring UAE geography, customs, and social life, and comparing them with the present day. The camp will highlight significant national achievements over the past 52 years. Under the theme ‘The Explorer’, activities will include writing letters about their dreams for the UAE’s future, simulating the discussions that led to the Union Agreement, participating in treasure hunts, learning cultural guiding techniques, organizing museum tours, and studying the museum’s history and the founding fathers.
In the Al Fahidi Summer Camp, participants will engage in interactive workshops, build small models of Al Fahidi Fort, learn about the types of wells and methods of digging them in the UAE, and understand how to overcome climate challenges. They will also learn knot-tying techniques and participate in various adventure-filled tasks.
The Dubai Public Library Summer Camp, held at Al Safa Art and Design Library, Al Rashidiya, Al Twar, Umm Suqeim, Al Mankhool, and Hatta Public Libraries, will run from 15 to 26 July and 5 to 16 August. The camp, themed ‘Our Summer is Full of Arts and Innovation,’ features interactive workshops for ages 5 to 9 on innovative farming techniques, sustainable farm creation methods, and robot control in smart farm management. Older children, aged 9 to 14, will learn smart city building methods, including using recycled materials and innovative urban planning techniques. They will also engage in drawing and coloring murals inspired by the Smart Farm & City track, guided by artists Najat Makki, Magdy Al Kafrawi, and Rabab Tantawi.
The Innovative Projects Village track will have participants create products influenced by different cultures, design logos, explore traditional and modern products, and learn about entrepreneurship strategies inspired by Shark Tank. They will develop products, set pricing, market their creations, and create advertising campaigns. On the last day of the camp, participants will showcase their work at the Art Projects Expo, where a specialized jury will evaluate and select the winners. Concurrently, Al Safa Art and Design Library will host the Second-Hand Book Fair, offering a valuable collection of used books at nominal prices to promote reading among the next generation.
The Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children Summer Camp, held from 8 to 19 July and 5 to 16 August, will feature creative workshops for children aged 4 to 9. These workshops will focus on ceramics, musical instruments, photography, cinematography, dance, puppet theatre design, and clay animation creation. Participants will create large-scale sand paintings, craft jellyfish sculptures from plastic bags, explore the history of pearl diving in the UAE, and create artworks inspired by marine life.
All camp activities will be conducted in Arabic and English, supervised by a team of specialists and experts, ensuring a safe environment that encourages children to develop their skills
