Dubai Culture hosts ‘library talks’ session on the state of the Arabic novel

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has announced the organisation of a new cultural session titled ‘The State of the Novel in the Arab World’ as part of its Library Talks initiative, reinforcing its efforts to position Dubai as a leading global centre for culture and creativity.

The panel discussion will take place at Al Safa Art & Design Library on 18 December and will feature writer Ali Abu al-Reesh, Dr. Mohsen Alramli, and author Nadia Al Najjar. Moderated by writer Mariam Hammoud, the session will explore the current landscape and evolution of the Arabic novel, key challenges facing Arab literary production, and the role of fiction in shaping cultural and social awareness.

The discussion will also examine contemporary literary trends, emerging creative voices, and the future prospects of Arabic narrative writing, while strengthening dialogue between creators and the public.

As part of the same initiative, a practical workshop titled ‘Narrative Techniques in Novel Writing’ will be held from 19 to 21 December and delivered by Dr. Mohsen Alramli. The workshop is designed to enhance participants’ storytelling and writing skills, covering core elements such as character development, plot structure, narrative techniques, and the balance between reality and imagination. Participants will also receive training on post-writing processes to support the development of impactful and original novels.

The Library Talks initiative forms part of the Schools of Life project, supporting the development of literary talent and enriching Dubai’s cultural landscape.
