Dubai Culture conducts acting workshop for beginners in run-up to Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre 2015

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, the Emirates dedicated entity for heritage and culture, organised a special acting workshop for beginners as part of the preparations for the upcoming Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre.

The workshop was organised in association with the Dubai Folklore Society Theatre and was supervised by senior artists from various theatre groups that are participating in the flagship theatre event by Dubai Culture.

Yasser Al Gergawi, Acting Projects & Events Director and the Director of Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre at the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre is today a definitive platform that showcases emerging theatre talent in the UAE. We are committed to supporting young talents by providing them necessary training that will enrich their creative standards. The workshop was in line with the goal of Dubai Culture to support the growth of the UAEs cultural scene by providing adequate platforms for training and development, and thus shape the next generation of talent.

The workshop was also aimed at strengthening awareness on theatre and the UAEs heritage in this artform to a wider audience, while encouraging new talents to step forward and be part of the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre.

Eminent artist Abdullah Saleh and Chairman of Dubai Folklore Society Theatre, thanked Dubai Culture for supporting theatre talent and providing the platform for new artists to highlight their creative capabilities.

The workshop was supported by Mahmoud Abu Alabbas, a legend in theatre, who outlined the various aspects of the workshop taking into consideration that the participants are new to the theatre scene. He focused on the strengths and weaknesses of the participants to help them achieve their true potential as actors.

The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre is one of the largest celebrations of theatre in the region. It reflects the commitment of Dubai Culture to strengthen and preserve one of the oldest art forms by providing upcoming talent with a platform to showcase their skills to a wider audience.

It serves as one of the most accomplished platforms for young theatrical talent be it directors, writers, actors, technicians, costume and accessories designers or light technicians, to work together and highlight their skills in the different areas of theatre production.
