Dubai Culture and Emirates Writers Union Address Literary Ethics in the Age of AI
In a move to explore the growing impact of technology on the creative landscape, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is set to host a panel discussion titled ‘AI-generated Content and Literary Plagiarism’ on April 23 at Al Mankhool Public Library. The session is being organised in collaboration with the Emirates Writers Union, Dubai Branch.
The discussion will be led by writer Afra Mahmood and writer and translator Dr. Latifa Al-Haj, who will examine the ethical challenges arising from the increasing use of artificial intelligence in content creation. The session aims to address concerns around plagiarism in AI-generated texts, as well as the blurred boundaries between human creativity and algorithmic writing.
The initiative reflects Dubai Culture’s broader commitment to encouraging dialogue on contemporary issues shaping the creative sector. As digital tools rapidly evolve, the panel will explore key questions related to originality, intellectual property, and authorship, while emphasising the need for responsible and ethical practices that protect creators’ rights.
Moderated by writer Salha Obeid, the session will provide an interactive platform for writers, cultural practitioners, and audiences to exchange perspectives. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with Emirati literary works and gain deeper insight into how local writers contribute to strengthening Dubai’s creative ecosystem.
The event comes at a time when AI-generated content is becoming increasingly prevalent, prompting global conversations around ownership, authenticity, and the future of literature.
