Dubai Chocolate Products in UAE Free from Salmonella Contamination, Confirms Ministry
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has confirmed that chocolate products sold under the widely recognized “Dubai chocolate” label are safe for consumption and free from any salmonella contamination. The statement comes in response to a warning issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding a chocolate spread available in American markets.
The FDA had raised concerns about the safety of Emek Spread Pistachio Cacao Cream with Kadayef, a product manufactured outside the UAE and promoted as being inspired by “Dubai chocolate.” US retailer World Market recalled the batch in question after testing revealed potential salmonella contamination, prompting a Class I recall — the FDA’s highest level of health risk.
In a public statement, the UAE Ministry clarified that this product is not available in UAE markets and has no connection to the authentic Dubai chocolate products commonly sold across the country. It stressed that the affected chocolate spread merely uses branding inspired by Dubai's flavors, but is neither produced in the UAE nor associated with Dubai-based manufacturers.
"The well-known Dubai chocolate, available in various forms across the UAE, remains free from any contamination. It is not related to the recalled product in the US," the ministry emphasized.
The ministry specifically noted that Dubai’s premium chocolate offerings, especially those by FIX Dessert Chocolatier — a locally established brand known for its distinctive Middle Eastern-inspired flavors — adhere to the highest food safety and quality standards.
"The Ministry reaffirms its ongoing commitment to food safety and the protection of public health through continuous monitoring and coordination with all relevant authorities," the statement concluded.
The Ministry also urged consumers to remain vigilant about the origin of imported food products and to rely on official communications regarding food safety within the UAE.
