DMT, Mubadala, and ADEK Collaborate on New Abu Dhabi Canvas Initiative

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Mubadala Investment Company, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) have announced a joint effort under the Abu Dhabi Canvas initiative to transform public spaces in the emirate. The collaboration aims to enrich urban infrastructure with vibrant artworks, celebrating Emirati culture and heritage while fostering community engagement.

This initiative will see the installation of public murals, artistically designed crosswalks, and utility boxes in Rabdan and other districts. A key feature is the beautification of Delivery Riders Hubs, vital service points for delivery personnel. These hubs, equipped with shaded seating, air-conditioning, and other amenities, will be adorned with art selected from student submissions featured in the National Art Expressions exhibition organized by ADEK at Manarat Al Saadiyat.

Empowering Emirati Talent Through Art
HE Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operations Affairs at DMT, emphasized that the partnership with Mubadala Foundation and ADEK seeks to enhance Abu Dhabi’s public spaces by integrating art into urban infrastructure. “These projects reflect our shared values and aim to celebrate the UAE’s rich cultural and artistic heritage,” he said.

The initiative showcases student artwork, including four pieces from private, charter, and public school students, selected from 1,000 submissions. The featured works will decorate Delivery Riders Hubs and symbolize various aspects of Emirati culture, such as falcons, traditional attire, and wind towers.

HE Mubarak Hamad Al Muhairi, ADEK Undersecretary, praised the initiative as a platform for students to showcase their talent, transforming Abu Dhabi into a “living gallery” of Emirati heritage.

Artworks Across Abu Dhabi
In Rabdan, five Emirati artists will create 17 murals, 26 crosswalks, and 15 utility boxes, offering residents an immersive artistic experience. Their designs will blend elements of Emirati tradition, such as falcons, dhows, and Arabic coffee pots, with modern urban landscapes, creating a dynamic visual experience.

HE Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO at Mubadala, expressed pride in contributing to the beautification of Abu Dhabi through art, emphasizing the project’s role in promoting creativity and supporting the community.

This initiative marks a continued commitment to fostering inclusive and vibrant public spaces that connect residents with the UAE’s cultural heritage while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the city.
