DIEZ and Dubai Land Department Collaborate to Propel Proptech Sector in Dubai
The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has announced a strategic collaboration with the Dubai Land Department (DLD) to support and foster growth within the property technology (Proptech) sector. This partnership aims to enhance research, development, and innovation, ease business operations, and encourage the growth of emerging startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and innovative enterprises within the Proptech industry.
Aligned with the Dubai Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Grant Initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, in September 2024, this collaboration will contribute to advancing Dubai’s standing as a global leader in digital innovation. The RDI Initiative specifically focuses on cognitive cities, smart mobility, and Proptech, making this collaboration key to Dubai’s vision for a future-ready economy.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, and His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of DLD, at Dubai Silicon Oasis, the knowledge and innovation hub under DIEZ.
A Hub for Tech Innovation
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni emphasized DIEZ’s role in providing an environment that nurtures start-ups, SMEs, and projects in emerging tech sectors. “Dubai is a global destination for tech entrepreneurs and innovators, and through this partnership, DIEZ aims to further enhance the emirate’s global standing as a hub for technology and innovation, aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33,” he said. “We are committed to doubling the size of Dubai’s economy and positioning it as one of the top three global cities by 2033.”
Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of supporting Proptech startups and SMEs. “This partnership supports the adoption of technologies such as AI and blockchain in real estate, advancing Dubai’s role as a key hub for real estate innovation in line with the Dubai Real Estate Strategy 2033,” he noted. The partnership also aligns with the Real Estate Evolution Space (REES) initiative, which aims to build a comprehensive ecosystem centered on digital solutions in real estate.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The MoU outlines several key collaboration areas between DIEZ and DLD, including the design and implementation of joint programs focused on real estate technology. The two entities will launch initiatives supporting the integration of AI and Proptech applications within startups and SMEs.
Additionally, DIEZ will assist companies with business licenses, visa services, and access to office space at the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus, the largest tech co-working space in MENA. DIEZ will also offer legal and administrative support, facilitate access to venture capital, and host workshops to promote Proptech innovation.
Meanwhile, DLD will support the use of AI and blockchain technologies in the real estate sector, offer resources to encourage company establishment and market expansion, and foster educational partnerships to provide mentoring and training opportunities.
The partnership promises to significantly enhance the Proptech sector, positioning Dubai as a leading global destination for technological advancements in real estate.
