DGHR Announces Pilot Launch of 'Our Flexible Summer' Initiative to Reduce Working Hours for Dubai Government Entities

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has announced the pilot launch of its 'Our Flexible Summer' initiative, aimed at reducing working hours for select government entities during the summer months. This initiative is a testament to DGHR’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the performance and quality of life for government employees, while also supporting the goals outlined in the 'Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033.' This strategy seeks to position Dubai as a premier global destination for long-term settlement and work.

The pilot phase of the initiative will see 15 government entities participating, with a focus on reducing daily working hours to seven and suspending work on Fridays. Running from August 12 to September 30, 2024, the initiative aims to improve workplace flexibility, enhance social life, and ensure workplace safety during the summer, thereby promoting a better work-life balance for employees.

His Excellency Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of DGHR, remarked, “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative, in line with our ongoing efforts to cultivate a flexible work environment that fosters work-life balance for government employees. This initiative aligns with our vision to empower human resources through smart solutions and innovative policies, thereby enhancing Dubai’s competitiveness. It also aims to improve employees’ quality of life and promote sustainable use of government resources, solidifying Dubai’s reputation as an ideal city for superior living.”

To prepare for the launch, DGHR conducted a survey to gauge the willingness of various government entities to reduce working hours during the summer. The initiative received strong support, reflecting a collective openness to adopting measures that promote employee well-being and work-life balance.

DGHR will provide participating government entities with the necessary resources to collect and report feedback on the initiative's impact on employees and overall productivity. This feedback will be regularly assessed, and a final report will be compiled, summarizing the initiative’s outcomes, DGHR’s recommendations, and its potential adaptability across various government entities.

This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a flexible, employee-centered work culture in Dubai’s government sector, aligning with the emirate’s broader goals for sustainable development and enhanced quality of life.
