A celebration ground for Culture and Family at Sharjah Light Festival 2019
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, 29 January 2019: The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) announced the details of the ninth edition of the Sharjah Light Festival, set to be held from February 6 to 16, 2019, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The much-awaited Festival will present an exciting lineup of globally renowned artists during its 11-day run, spread across 20 shows throughout the emirate, under the theme Culture and Family. SCTDA unveiled the details during a press conference held today (Monday, January 28, 2019), at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
SCTDA places great importance on the strengthening of familial ties and cultural ambition, valuing individuality while targeting universality. The theme of Sharjah Light Festival 2019 will illuminate 17 leading locations in the emirate of Sharjah, including Sharjah University City Campus Avenue; Sharjah Police Academy; University City Hall; American University of Sharjah; Sharjah Book Authority; Sharjah City Municipality; Khalid Lagoon; Masjid Al Noor; Al Qasba (Internal Facades); Palm Oasis- Khalid Lagoon; Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Directorate of Human Resources - Kalba, Municipality and Municipal Council - Al Hamriyah & Kalba; Municipality and Municipal Council - Khorfakkan, Directorate of Town Planning Department - Khorfakkan; and Masjid Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmad Al Qasimi Dibba Al-Hisn will light up in motifs that encapsulate the significance of culture and family, as part of the Festival.
H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the SCTDA, said: "The Emirate of Sharjah is an enchanting venue to witness diversity and global openness to different cultures, making it one of the most attractive cultural destinations in the world. In this context, the festival will be held this year with the theme Culture and Family to highlight the uniqueness and cultural diversity being experienced in the emirate. The festival will host in its ninth edition, renowned artists and pioneers in global culture and knowledge, celebrating the unique harmony between modernity and heritage in Sharjah and its ability to maintain both in one city."
Al Midfa added: "The festival has achieved great success over the past years, embodying the most important tourist attractions in Sharjah, reflecting the richness of the emirates culture. This year, including 17 locations in the emirate, will offer new shows that are no less amazing than previous years. There will be a range of artistic performances and a showcase of historical architecture through modern lighting techniques such as Laser Mapping, which will be shown for the first time in Al Qasba and Khalid Lagoon. There will also be various activities and a water carnival to be held at Khalid Lagoon to give visitors an exceptional experience in the emirate."
The festival is supported by Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Police Headquarters, Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), Beeah, Department of Civil Aviation, Sharjah International Airport, Al Majaz Amphitheatre. Sahara Centre and Zero 6 are mall partners, Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Al Khaleej Newspaper and Euronews are among the events media supporters, and Nomada is the official partner. The light shows will be accompanied by specially composed music by renowned artists from all over the world.
The daily shows will run from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm on weekdays and 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight on weekends.
Last year the Festival attracted one million visitors during the 11 days and generated coverage in more than 100 local and global media outlets in over 30 countries, reflecting SCTDAs intensified efforts over the past eight years, to diversify the Light Festivals programs to further boost the global image of Sharjah as a destination, while also promoting the emirates achievements on scientific, cultural, and artistic levels.
