belgrade philharmonic string quartet to perform two concerts for abu dhabi classics on debut appearance in the emirate

The highly acclaimed Belgrade Philharmonic String Quartet is to perform two concerts later this month in the emirate of Abu Dhabi as part of the new Abu Dhabi Classics international concert season. Presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) the series of world-class concerts are taking place in spectacular venues across the emirate. With a new and expanded programme of 26 performances in the UAE capital, Saadiyat Island, Liwa desert and historic sites in the emirates heritage heartland of Al Ain, the new season will run until May 2016 and include concerts from some of the most prestigious names in Western and Eastern classical music.

The acclaimed East European Chamber Music ensembles first performance is to be held at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island on 28th October for an evening of Beethoven and Brahms while the following night the musicians will play a concert at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, titled Chamber Music in the Desert. Dr Ronald Perlwitz, Head of Music Programme, TCA Abu Dhabi said: We have worked very closely with the Belgrade Philharmonic String Quartet and designed two programmes perfectly adapted to the venues where they will be performing. The fantastic, dark, intense melodic structure of Beethovens String Quartet No 10, Harp, fits for example perfectly with the intimate setting of Manarat Al Saadiyat, while Ravels String Quartet in F major will certainly represent, with its musical echoes to the theme of 1,001 nights, an impressive musical answer to the splendid setting of Qasr Al Sarab.
Founded in 2011 by musicians of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the Quartet has played across Serbia and Europe, including as part of humanitarian projects, and this will be their debut appearance in Abu Dhabi.

The musicians of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Jelena Dragni, Vladan Lonar, Boris Brezovac and Aleksandar Latkovi, founded the String Quartet within this orchestra in 2011. By giving concerts throughout Serbia and within Europe, the Quartet accomplished its mission to perform chamber music outside the concert halls of the Serbian capital. In June 2014, in cooperation with clarinetist Ognjen Popovi, the Belgrade Philharmonic String Quartet recorded their first CD containing compositions by Ludvig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms.

For the first concert, the Belgrade Philharmonic String Quartet will be performing Beethovens String Quartet No.10, written in 1809 while for the second part of the concert, the Quartet will perform Johannes Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor, written in 1891. Other concerts this year as part of Abu Dhabi Classics include four by Catalan viol and rebab player Jordi Savall who will be joined by his ensemble Hesperion XXl; the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with concerts in Al Ain and at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi city; and an evening featuring the poet Adonis on December 17.
