Arafah Day And Eid Al Adha To Deliver Longest UAE Public Holiday In 2026
Residents across the UAE can look forward to one of the longest public holidays of the year, as Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha are expected to create an extended break in May 2026.
According to current projections, Arafah Day is likely to fall on Tuesday, May 26, followed by Eid Al Adha holidays from Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29, as approved by the UAE Cabinet. When combined with the weekend, this results in a six-day long break for residents.
However, those looking to maximise their time off can turn it into a nine-day holiday by taking just one day of annual leave on Monday, May 25, effectively bridging the gap between two weekends.
As with all Islamic holidays, the final dates remain subject to moon sighting, and residents are advised to confirm official announcements closer to the time.
Religious Significance
Arafah Day, observed on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, is one of the holiest days in Islam, marked by prayer, reflection, and fasting for many المسلمين worldwide. It coincides with the key ritual of standing at Mount Arafat during the annual pilgrimage.
Eid Al Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, follows immediately after and is celebrated over three days with prayers, charitable acts, and family gatherings.
Hajj Season 2026
The holidays align with the annual Hajj pilgrimage, expected to take place between May 25 and June 30, 2026, drawing millions of المسلمين to Makkah.
Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, includes rituals such as Tawaf (circling the Kaaba), Sa’i (walking between Safa and Marwa), and the Day of Arafah, followed by symbolic rites in Mina.
Opportunity For Travel And Family Time
The extended break offers an ideal opportunity for travel, staycations, and family gatherings, with many residents expected to plan vacations around the holiday period.
Authorities have reminded the public that official dates will be confirmed based on the lunar calendar, and slight changes may occur depending on the moon sighting.
