AI Experts Call for Robust AGI Regulations as Ai Everything Global Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi
Leading artificial intelligence experts emphasized the urgent need for regulatory frameworks to govern Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) on the opening day of Ai Everything Global. The inaugural edition of the event, organized by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) in affiliation with GITEX GLOBAL, gathered industry leaders to discuss the ethical and responsible development of AI technologies.
The summit commenced at Abu Dhabi’s St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, where AI professionals engaged in discussions on AGI, a technology that has evolved from theoretical research to real-world applications. Experts highlighted the uncertainties surrounding AGI and stressed the importance of establishing safeguards to mitigate potential risks.
Urgent Call for AGI Regulations
Stuart Russell, Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, underscored the unpredictability of AGI development and the necessity of stringent regulations. He warned that while AI models have advanced rapidly, their reliability remains a concern.
"Whether making the next generation of large language models bigger will lead to AGI is purely speculation. The technology is extremely unreliable, and even AI experts do not fully understand how it functions. When issues arise, there is no clear way to resolve them," Russell stated.
He urged governments and corporations to collaborate in crafting frameworks that prevent AGI systems from disseminating harmful content, such as hacking instructions.
AI and Robotics: Enhancing Human Connection
MIT Media Lab Research Scientist Kate Darling, a recognized expert in AI ethics and policy, emphasized the role of robotics in strengthening human connections rather than replacing them. She advocated for AI to serve as a complement to human intelligence, enhancing productivity rather than diminishing human roles.
Darling also raised concerns about the environmental footprint of AI technologies, calling for a balance between innovation and sustainability to ensure long-term benefits for both humanity and the planet.
Ai Everything Global Continues in Dubai
Following the discussions in Abu Dhabi, Ai Everything Global 2025 will continue at the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), Expo City, for two more days of debates and networking opportunities.
The event will feature over 500 tech enterprises and startups from 70 countries, alongside 500 Chief AI Officers (CAIOs) and 200 AI experts. More than 150 investors, managing assets worth $70 billion, are expected to participate, making Ai Everything Global the world’s largest AI investor connector platform.
As the event progresses, industry leaders will continue shaping the future of AI governance, ensuring that AGI advancements align with ethical principles and societal well-being.
