UAE to Host Japanese Language Proficiency Test for the First Time

In a significant step towards strengthening cultural and educational collaboration, the United Arab Emirates will host the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) for the first time in December 2025. The initiative marks a historic milestone in Japan-UAE relations, offering learners across the UAE an opportunity to take the globally recognised language certification exam without traveling abroad.

The development comes following a formal agreement signed between The Japan Foundation and the Continuing Education Center (CEC) at UAE University (UAEU) in Al Ain. The test will be administered at the CEC, serving as the UAE's first official JLPT testing site.

The Embassy of Japan in the UAE welcomed the move, calling it a reflection of the growing interest in Japanese language and culture among Emirati students and residents. It also noted the strategic importance of making the JLPT more accessible to learners in the Middle East.

The JLPT, which tests reading and listening comprehension, is widely recognised by academic institutions and employers worldwide. With its introduction in the UAE, learners now have the opportunity to validate their Japanese language skills locally—boosting prospects in academic, diplomatic, and business spheres.

The partnership is expected to pave the way for further bilateral educational exchanges, cultural programming, and collaborative opportunities between Japan and the UAE in the coming years.
