Dubai Opens New Beach Library at Jumeirah Beach 2 to Promote Reading
Dubai has expanded its unique beach library initiative, giving residents and visitors another opportunity to enjoy reading by the sea as part of efforts to promote a culture of knowledge and learning.
The new free beach library was launched at Jumeirah Beach 2, according to an announcement by Dubai Municipality on its official social media channels.
Reading by the Shore
The initiative invites beachgoers to browse a collection of books and enjoy reading while relaxing by the waves. Visitors can simply approach the library, pick a book that interests them, and read at their leisure while taking in the seaside atmosphere.
In a message shared online, Dubai Municipality encouraged visitors to participate in the experience, asking readers to share the titles of books they enjoyed while visiting the beach library.
Launched During UAE Month of Reading
The launch coincides with the UAE Month of Reading, held every March to encourage reading and knowledge-sharing across the country.
The initiative was introduced in 2016 following the Year of Reading programme announced by the UAE Cabinet, with the goal of building a sustainable culture of reading among all segments of society.
Part of a Growing Network of Beach Libraries
The new library at Jumeirah Beach 2, which also operates as a night beach, expands Dubai’s growing network of seaside reading spaces.
The concept was first introduced at Kite Beach, with authorities planning to establish eight beach libraries across the emirate.
Wide Range of Books Available
The libraries offer a diverse selection of titles in both Arabic and English, covering a variety of subjects including:
-
Literature
-
History
-
Children’s stories
-
Educational and cultural titles
Accessible to everyone, the beach libraries are designed to combine leisure, culture and learning, allowing visitors to enjoy a relaxing reading experience in one of Dubai’s most scenic outdoor settings.
