Dubai Opens 820-Metre Cycling Bridge Linking Al Mamzar and Al Khawaneej

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a new 820-metre cycling and pedestrian bridge connecting Al Mamzar and Al Khawaneej via Al Nahda, marking another milestone in the emirate's efforts to expand its sustainable transport network and promote active mobility.

The dedicated bridge provides a safe, uninterrupted crossing for cyclists and pedestrians while strengthening links between several of Dubai's key cycling routes. Designed to encourage more residents and visitors to choose environmentally friendly modes of transport, the project enhances accessibility across the city's growing cycling infrastructure.

Expanding Dubai's Cycling Network

The newly opened bridge connects directly with the Al Khawaneej and Al Warqa cycling tracks, allowing riders to continue their journeys seamlessly towards Saih Al Salam, one of Dubai's most popular long-distance cycling destinations.

By linking these established routes, the bridge creates a more integrated cycling network, making it easier for commuters, fitness enthusiasts, and recreational cyclists to travel safely between residential communities and dedicated cycling corridors without relying on motor vehicles.

The enhanced connectivity is expected to encourage greater use of bicycles for both leisure and short-distance commuting while improving accessibility for pedestrians.

Improving Safety for Cyclists and Pedestrians

The bridge has been purpose-built to provide a dedicated crossing separated from vehicular traffic, offering a safer and more convenient alternative for people travelling on foot or by bicycle.

With cycling continuing to grow in popularity across Dubai, the new infrastructure helps reduce conflicts between motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians while supporting smoother movement along some of the emirate's busiest transport corridors.

The project also contributes to creating a more inclusive transport network by offering residents and visitors additional options for moving around the city safely and comfortably.

Supporting Sustainable and Active Mobility

The new bridge forms part of the RTA's long-term strategy to promote sustainable transportation and encourage healthier lifestyles through expanded walking and cycling infrastructure.

Dubai has continued investing in dedicated cycling tracks, pedestrian facilities, and smart mobility projects as part of its broader vision to reduce reliance on private vehicles, lower carbon emissions, and create a more connected urban environment.

By improving links between existing cycling routes, the latest project supports the emirate's objective of making cycling a practical transport option alongside its recreational appeal.

Encouraging Healthier Lifestyles

Beyond improving transportation, the bridge is expected to support Dubai's initiatives aimed at promoting physical activity and community wellbeing.

The expanded cycling network offers residents more opportunities to incorporate cycling and walking into their daily routines, whether for commuting, exercise, or leisure, while providing visitors with greater access to some of the city's most popular outdoor cycling destinations.

As Dubai continues expanding its cycling infrastructure, projects such as the Al Mamzar–Al Khawaneej bridge reinforce the emirate's commitment to building a modern, sustainable, and people-friendly transport system that balances mobility, safety, and environmental responsibility.
