UAE Defence Giant EDGE Launches Paris-Headquartered European Company Amid Rising Defence Demand
EDGE Group, the Abu Dhabi-based advanced technology and defence conglomerate, has announced the launch of EDGE Europe, a fully European company headquartered in Paris, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion strategy and formal entry into the rapidly growing European defence market.
The new entity will operate as a French-registered enterprise, with its headquarters located in central Paris and a dedicated engineering and manufacturing hub established in Bordeaux. While the Paris office will oversee government engagement, strategic partnerships, and investment initiatives across Europe, the Bordeaux facility will focus on design, integration, and the accelerated development of advanced defence technologies.
The launch comes at a time when European nations are significantly increasing defence investments amid evolving geopolitical challenges. Defence spending across the European Union rose by 60 per cent between 2020 and 2025, reflecting the continent’s efforts to strengthen military readiness and modernise defence capabilities.
According to EDGE, the establishment of EDGE Europe represents the first phase of a broader long-term commitment to supporting Europe’s defence ecosystem through innovation, industrial collaboration, and advanced technology solutions.
Faisal Al Bannai, Chairman of EDGE Group, said the company aims to contribute to the next generation of defence capabilities required by European nations.
“Europe stands at a defining moment for its defence, and EDGE has come to be part of its future. The defence capabilities that matter most in the decade ahead will be built by those bold enough to do things differently, with the speed and ambition this era demands,” he said.
“EDGE Europe combines the agility of a next-generation defence company with the expertise and scale of an established industrial group. This is the model Europe’s defence sector needs to accelerate innovation and capability development.”
The move highlights the transformation of EDGE from a regional defence enterprise into a global player. Established in 2019 to strengthen sovereign defence capabilities in the UAE, the group has experienced rapid growth, increasing export sales from $18.5 million at its inception to approximately $5 billion in annual revenue by 2025. Exports now account for more than 70 per cent of the company’s business activities.
EDGE is also the only Arab defence conglomerate included in the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) ranking of the world’s leading defence companies, where it currently ranks among the top global defence firms. The company’s execution contract pipeline is reported to exceed $25 billion.
The launch of EDGE Europe builds on an extensive network of existing partnerships and investments across the continent. The group has acquired strategic stakes in defence and technology companies including Milrem Robotics in Estonia, Anavia in Switzerland, and Flaris in Poland, while also pursuing acquisitions and joint ventures in Italy, Spain, and other European markets.
Earlier this year, EDGE partnered with Spanish defence company Indra Sistemas to establish a loitering munitions venture targeting a multi-year order pipeline valued at approximately €2 billion. The group’s capabilities span autonomous systems, electronic warfare, propulsion technologies, advanced sensors, and air and naval platforms.
EDGE’s reputation for rapid innovation has been a key differentiator in the defence sector. The company noted that its UAE-developed electronic warfare systems successfully neutralised more than 85 per cent of hostile drones during recent operational deployments, while its artificial intelligence models were updated using live operational data within hours, significantly accelerating response and adaptation cycles.
France was selected as the headquarters location due to its strategic importance within Europe’s defence and aerospace industries. Bordeaux, in particular, is recognised as a major aerospace and defence manufacturing hub, offering access to specialised engineering talent, advanced supply chains, and expertise in propulsion, composites, and avionics technologies.
EDGE Europe stated that it plans to recruit and develop local talent, create highly skilled employment opportunities, and strengthen European supply chains through collaboration with existing industry players rather than direct competition.
The company’s expansion into Europe underscores the growing role of Gulf-based defence manufacturers in global markets and reflects increasing industrial cooperation between the UAE and European nations in advanced technology and defence sectors.
