Burj Khalifa invites global artists to design its iconic facade projection

Emaar has launched the 2026 Burj Khalifa Projection Design Open Call, inviting artists from around the world to submit original audiovisual concepts for a chance to have their work projected onto the facade of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.

The competition, which opened on July 8, will accept entries until August 18, 2026, at 11:59pm, giving creatives nearly six weeks to develop and submit their designs.

Unlike last year's edition, which was open only to UAE residents, the 2026 competition has been expanded to welcome artists from across the globe, reflecting Emaar's ambition to showcase international creative talent.

The selected design will be displayed on the Burj Khalifa's iconic facade, offering the winning artist the opportunity to present their work on one of the world's largest architectural projection canvases. Unlike the 2025 competition, which offered a Dh100,000 cash prize, this year's edition does not mention a monetary award, with the public projection serving as the primary recognition.

Submission requirements

Participants must submit a three-minute audiovisual projection in MP4 format with integrated music, together with a high-resolution MOV version of the projection and a separate audio file. Entrants are also required to include a concept note of up to 300 words explaining the creative vision behind their work.

All visuals, music and other content must be entirely original and free from copyright restrictions.

Importantly, entries created using artificial intelligence (AI) tools will not be accepted and will be automatically disqualified, according to the competition rules.

Designs must also comply with UAE cultural values while demonstrating creativity, originality, visual impact and technical feasibility.

How to participate

Artists wishing to enter the competition should:

  • Prepare a three-minute projection video and supporting audio files.
  • Write a concept description of up to 300 words.
  • Download the official technical specifications and guidance manual from the Burj Khalifa Open Call section.
  • Submit all required materials by email to [email protected] before August 18, 2026, at 11:59pm.

Entries will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, storytelling, visual impact and technical execution.

Over the years, the Burj Khalifa has become one of Dubai's most recognisable storytelling platforms, featuring spectacular projection displays for national celebrations, global awareness campaigns and major international events, including New Year's Eve, International Women's Day and the Sheikh Zayed Centennial commemorations.
