UAE Visit Visa Grace Period Ends July 9: What Affected Visitors Need to Do
Visitors who benefited from the UAE's temporary exemption from overstay fines have until July 9, 2026, to regularise their immigration status or leave the country, following the conclusion of the special relief measures introduced during regional flight disruptions.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) granted a 30-day grace period earlier this month for eligible visitors who were unable to depart the UAE due to airspace closures and flight cancellations caused by regional tensions.
With normal flight operations now restored, the authority has advised affected individuals to complete the necessary immigration procedures before the deadline to avoid potential overstay penalties.
Who Is Affected?
According to immigration consultants, the measure primarily applies to visit visa holders who benefited from the temporary waiver of overstay fines after being stranded in the UAE during regional travel disruptions.
Firooskhan, an immigration expert at Arabian Business Centre, said the exemption was intended for visitors who could not leave the country because of cancelled or disrupted flights.
He noted that many eligible visitors have already departed the UAE, while others are using the remaining grace period to complete visa-related formalities.
Why Was the Grace Period Introduced?
The temporary relief was introduced after escalating regional tensions earlier this year resulted in widespread airspace closures and flight cancellations, preventing many tourists from leaving the UAE.
To support affected travellers, authorities waived overstay fines, allowing eligible visitors to remain in the country without incurring penalties until normal travel operations resumed.
The July 9 deadline represents the final opportunity for those visitors to regularise their status or exit the country.
Available Options Before July 9
Immigration experts say affected visitors generally have three options before the grace period expires:
- Regularise their visa status, if eligible.
- Complete employment-related visa procedures if they have secured a job in the UAE.
- Leave the UAE before July 9 to avoid overstay penalties.
Firooskhan said some visitors have already obtained employment and are completing the required status change procedures, while those who are unable to regularise their stay should arrange their departure before the deadline.
Mohammed Masiuddin, an immigration consultant at Superjet Group, described the temporary relief as a significant support measure for travellers affected by exceptional circumstances.
Does the Deadline Apply to All Visa Holders?
Immigration experts clarified that the special July 9 deadline does not apply to all visa categories.
The measure specifically concerns visitors who benefited from the temporary overstay fine exemption and should not be confused with the UAE's standard residence visa grace periods.
According to business centres and document clearance agencies, expired or cancelled residence visas continue to follow the country's existing immigration regulations, with grace periods varying depending on visa type and professional category.
Authorities Advise Early Action
Travel agencies and immigration consultants are encouraging affected visitors not to wait until the final days before the deadline, anticipating an increase in enquiries as July 9 approaches.
Eligible individuals are advised to verify their immigration status through an Amer Centre or the relevant immigration authorities and complete any necessary procedures as soon as possible.
Visitors who are unable to regularise their status are encouraged to make travel arrangements before the grace period expires to avoid the reinstatement of overstay fines once the exemption ends.
