Dubai Named World's Cleanest City for Fifth Consecutive Year

Dubai has once again been ranked as the world's cleanest city, securing the top spot in the latest Global Power City Index (GPCI) report issued by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan. This marks the fifth consecutive year Dubai has achieved this prestigious recognition, reaffirming its position as a global benchmark for sustainable urban living.

The city outshone more than 47 cities worldwide, earning 100% satisfaction in the cleanliness metric under the GPCI's environment pillar. This achievement highlights Dubai’s dedication to maintaining the highest international standards in living conditions and environmental sustainability.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Dubai’s commitment to sustainability is exemplified by the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which aims to reduce waste production by 18% and achieve a 100% diversion of waste from landfills by 2041. The integrated efforts of Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with public and private sector partners, have played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone.

Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, attributed the success to the city’s visionary leadership and its focus on teamwork and innovation.
“Dubai’s leadership in global rankings reflects its ambition to create the world’s best city to live and work. Innovation, sustainability, and quality of life are at the heart of our efforts,” he said.

Efficient Operations and Advanced Infrastructure
Dubai Municipality employs more than 3,200 monitors, supervisors, and engineers dedicated to maintaining the city’s cleanliness. A fleet of 855 state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment supports daily cleaning and waste management operations across the emirate.

The city manages extensive cleaning programmes that cover 2,400 kilometres of main roads, 1,419 square kilometres of investment zones, and 33.4 kilometres of water canals and creeks. Other initiatives include hazardous and medical waste treatment, abandoned vehicle removal, and e-services for community waste management.

Global Recognition for Dubai’s Vision
The consistent recognition of Dubai as the cleanest city in the world showcases the emirate’s dedication to setting new global standards for urban living. The seamless collaboration between government entities, private sector partners, and residents has been instrumental in creating a city defined by innovation, sustainability, and excellence.
