Dubai Culture and Emirates Writers Union Address Literary Ethics in the Age of AI
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has announced a thought-provoking panel discussion in collaboration with the Emirates Writers Union, focusing on the growing ethical challenges surrounding AI-generated content and literary plagiarism.
Titled “AI-generated Content and Literary Plagiarism,” the session will take place on April 23 at the Al Mankhool Public Library. The discussion will be led by writer Afra Mahmood and writer and translator Dr. Latifa Al-Haj, bringing together expertise from across the literary and academic spectrum.
The initiative underscores Dubai Culture’s commitment to fostering dialogue on contemporary issues shaping the creative sector, particularly as digital tools continue to blur the boundaries between human and machine-generated writing. The panel will examine the implications of plagiarism in AI-produced texts, alongside broader concerns related to originality, intellectual property, and the evolving definition of authorship.
Moderated by writer Salha Obeid, the session will provide an open platform for writers, translators, and cultural practitioners to exchange perspectives and insights. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with Emirati literary works, highlighting the role of local authors in strengthening Dubai’s dynamic creative ecosystem.
Through such initiatives, Dubai Culture continues to reinforce its vision of building a sustainable cultural environment, while promoting responsible practices that protect creators’ rights and encourage innovation in an increasingly AI-driven world.
