Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Launches 'Dubai Mallathon' to Promote Indoor Fitness During Summer

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has unveiled a new city-wide fitness initiative — the Dubai Mallathon — offering residents a unique opportunity to stay active during the summer by turning shopping malls into indoor walking and running tracks.

Part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, the Mallathon will run throughout August, enabling residents to exercise inside seven of Dubai’s largest shopping centres daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The participating malls include Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Marina Mall, and The Springs Souk.

“Sheikh Hamdan urged residents of all ages and backgrounds — including children, senior citizens, and mall employees — to ‘adopt a healthy and active lifestyle with ease and safety during the morning period throughout the month of August.’”

The indoor initiative offers a practical solution to the summer heat by transforming malls into safe, air-conditioned fitness zones, complete with walking and jogging paths. The programme is free and open to all, with registration available through the official website www.dubaimallathon.ae. Registered participants receive a digital card for identification.

Community-Focused and Health-Driven

The Dubai Mallathon isn’t just about fitness — it’s designed as a holistic wellness campaign. The initiative includes:

  • Fitness-tracking technologies

  • Health awareness booths

  • Guided stretching sessions

  • Dedicated play areas for children

To encourage a balanced lifestyle, restaurants and retail stores within the malls are offering special promotions and discounts aligned with healthy living principles, supporting better food choices and long-term wellness.

In his announcement, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the broader vision of the initiative:

“This is a simple idea with a powerful goal: bringing healthy, active living into familiar everyday spaces. Every step you take moves us closer towards a healthier Dubai.”

“This is a shared journey. We are all partners in transforming our city into the world’s best place to live, work, and visit.”

Building on a Legacy of Fitness

Dubai Mallathon builds upon Sheikh Hamdan’s established health and fitness campaigns such as the Dubai Fitness Challenge and Dubai Run, which have turned the city into an open-air gym in past years.

By making better use of indoor infrastructure and providing community-oriented support, the initiative is set to empower residents to maintain their fitness routines year-round, regardless of the weather.
