YAS Heat Launches “Al Sabq” National Initiative to Discover Future Emirati Racing Stars

In a pioneering step to elevate grassroots motorsport in the UAE, YAS Heat, the motorsport development arm based at Yas Marina Circuit, has officially launched “Al Sabq”, a national talent discovery initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing the next generation of Emirati racing stars aged 5 to 6.

The initiative, YAS Heat Academy – Al Sabq, is the first programme of its kind in the country and will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Yas Kartzone. Open to boys and girls, the program offers a full-day assessment where young participants will engage in time trials, fitness challenges, and driving behaviour evaluations. The event is free to enter, but pre-registration by May 7 is required due to limited slots.

The term “Al Sabq” is rooted in Arabic and connotes leadership, excellence, and being first, making it a fitting title for a programme aimed at shaping future racing champions. From the participants, two boys and one girl will be selected to receive a fully-funded racing seat in the local Bambino championship, along with official entry into the YAS Heat Academy’s development programme.

Ali Al Beshr, General Manager of Yas Marina Circuit, emphasized the significance of the initiative:

“This marks a major milestone in our commitment to cultivating national talent and reinforcing the UAE’s presence on the global motorsport stage. Al Sabq is not merely a competition—it’s a long-term investment in the youth, aligned with our mission to nurture talent and provide a clear path for aspiring single-seater drivers.”

Since its establishment, YAS Heat has been instrumental in producing elite racing talent. Notable alumni include:

  • Keanu Al Azhari, currently racing in the GB3 Championship

  • Hamda Al Qubaisi, a podium finisher in the F1 Academy

  • Rashid Al Dhaheri, competing in the Formula Regional European Championship

  • Matteo Quintarelli, a driver in the Asian Le Mans Series

  • Zack Scoular, runner-up in the Formula Regional Oceania Championship

The current YAS Heat roster features rising stars such as Adam Al Azhari and August Raber, both racing in the British Formula 4 Championship, showcasing the programme’s ongoing success in talent development.

The YAS Heat Academy – Al Sabq initiative is poised to further cement the UAE’s role in international motorsport by identifying young talent at an early age and giving them a professional platform to thrive.
