University of Dubai students get overview of new campus during visit to project site at Academic City

More than 50 students of the University of Dubai visited yesterday the new campus of the university at Academic City in Dubai. The students, who were accompanied by staff and faculty members, were taken around the construction sites of the new campus and provided a first-hand view of the progress of work at the new facility.

A team of engineers at the site explained to the students the construction phases of the project and details about the facilities and classrooms.

During the visit, the students were also given a brief presentation about the new campuss environmental and green standards. The new campus has been designed according to green building standards, and once completed it will be the only university in the region to be LEED certified.

Speaking on the occasion, Mustafa Kamel, a student of Finance at the university, said: I am delighted to see the progress of the campus construction, and I cant wait to move to the new campus. He added: I am sure that future students will love this new campus as much as I do.

The first phase of the new campus will be built on an area of 22,270 sq. m. with a capacity to accommodate up to 1,500 students. The new premises will be equipped with a range of facilities, including computer and language labs, rooms for debates, seminars and case studies, a library and breakout as well as study areas and conference room.

Construction work will be completed in several stages with the first phase covering the University Centre, College of Business and College of IT, getting ready for the start of the 2015 academic year on September 1st.

Ghalia Alwerfily, a student studying Information technology at the University of Dubai, stated: The visit to the construction sites of the new campus has instilled positive feelings in the students, and helped us realize how serious the University of Dubai management is about students lives and their future. She added: Everyone is waiting for that moment when we can move in to our new campus that will feature modern classrooms and state-of-the art facilities.

Students from three faculties; Business Administration, Information Technology and Law, joined the trip and shared with other students details about the progress of work at the new campus.
