UAE Ministry of Economy Unveils Report on Global Talent Competition at GITEX 2024

AI-Driven Recruitment Soars as UAE Strengthens Position in Global Tech Talent Race

The UAE Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with consulting firm Integra Seven, has released the 2024 edition of the UAE Future Tech Talent Report during GITEX x Expand North Star 2024. The report highlights the country’s strategic efforts to attract top tech talent, solidifying the UAE’s position as a global hub for technology and innovation.

The report outlines the rapid adoption of AI-driven hiring tools, with recruitment using these technologies surging by 90% since 2022. It also underscores the UAE's growing appeal, with 80% of employers citing the country's national brand as key to attracting elite tech professionals. However, it notes that while local talent is abundant, 95% of employers continue to seek international expertise, particularly in specialized fields such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.

Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for International Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, emphasized that tech talent is now a critical competitive advantage, stating that the UAE is determined to be a top destination for ambitious professionals. He also highlighted the country's efforts to create an environment that fosters innovation, high living standards, and educational opportunities.

Notably, the report points to a significant increase in discussions around Emiratization, with a 110% rise in references across social media and job platforms, signaling the growing emphasis on nationalization initiatives.

Fahad Al Hassawi, CEO of du, praised the report, noting that it charts the UAE’s progress as a global leader in tech talent. He emphasized du’s role in supporting this evolution, helping the nation attract world-class talent and encouraging further growth in the technology sector.

Additionally, the report challenges conventional wisdom on talent attraction. While government incentives are traditionally seen as vital, nearly 30% of employers now support targeted incentives directly to top talent rather than broader company-focused initiatives.

Offshoring has also become a crucial strategy for many companies, with 83% of employers indicating that hiring talent from outside the region is essential for sustaining growth and technological advancement.
