UAE Introduces Unified School Calendar to Streamline Holidays for Families
School leaders across the UAE have welcomed the newly introduced Unified Academic Calendar, which aims to simplify holiday planning for families with children enrolled in different schools or curricula.
Under the new directive, all schools will follow standardized term dates, regardless of their curriculum – be it British, American, IB, Indian, or national. The initiative is designed to help parents coordinate vacations more efficiently and maximize family time without having to juggle conflicting school schedules.
“This is a much-needed step for modern UAE families,” said a principal from a leading Dubai-based international school. “With siblings often enrolled in schools offering different curricula, planning time off together used to be difficult. The new calendar brings welcome relief.”
While the change is widely seen as beneficial, school administrators noted that some institutions may need to adjust their academic timelines to ensure full syllabus coverage within the revised structure. This could involve reworking internal assessments, lesson plans, and activity schedules to align with the new term framework.
Education authorities believe the Unified Academic Calendar will also foster greater harmony among schools and contribute to more consistent planning of national events, exams, and extracurricular activities across the education sector.
