TEAM ABU DHABI AIM FOR TURNAROUND IN CHINA
Team Abu Dhabi is determined to make a strong comeback in the 2024 UIM F1H2O World Championship as the competition returns to Shanghai this weekend. Thani Al Qemzi and Alberto Comparato are set to lead the charge for the team, aiming to overcome earlier setbacks in the championship.
The Grand Prix of Shanghai is the first of two consecutive rounds in China, providing a critical opportunity for both drivers to reset and push for a successful finish to the season. Team Abu Dhabi's manager, Guido Cappellini, who has secured 18 world titles for the team over the past nine years, remains optimistic about his drivers' potential.
“It’s been a challenging year so far, but there have been encouraging signs from Thani,” said Cappellini. “He was unfortunate in Olbia despite a strong performance, and we expect better results in the remaining races. Thani is a highly experienced driver who consistently aims for his best in every race.”
Cappellini also expressed confidence in Comparato, who joined Team Abu Dhabi this season, replacing three-time world champion Shaun Torrente. “Alberto is a talented driver, and although luck hasn’t been on his side, we know he has the skills to deliver strong performances. He just needs to stay focused.”
The championship battle is currently led by Sharjah Team’s rookie Rusty Wyatt, followed closely by defending champion Jonas Andersson and Victory Team’s Erik Stark. Only 15 points separate the top three drivers as they prepare for another round in China, followed by the season finale in Sharjah this December.
Veteran Emirati driver Thani Al Qemzi, who made his F1H2O debut in 2000, is set to make his 156th race start in Shanghai. Al Qemzi reached a significant milestone earlier this season, surpassing 1,000 career points in the championship. He returns to Shanghai with an impressive record of 10 Grand Prix wins and 45 podium finishes, determined to add to his tally.
