Spirit of Adventure: Ford Explorer Passes Big Milestone with Sale of 7 Millionth Vehicle
Ford has announced a big milestone for the popular Ford Explorer, having now sold more than 7 million vehicles worldwide since the Explorers launch in 1990, making it one of the most popular vehicles ever built. In the Middle East the Explorer has also proved to be popular, with more than 100,000 vehicles sold here since it arrived in 1992.
Explorer changed the way the world thought about the family hauler adventure became something you could put in your driveway, said Craig Patterson, Ford Explorer Marketing Manager. Explorer helped the family vehicle become an emotional purchase rather than a necessity. Its no surprise its been the best-selling SUV in the U.S. for a quarter century. Ford Explorer hit the market at a time when U.S. buyers were obsessed with minivans, offering hauling capability not found in most vehicles, and a design that captured the imagination of a generation.
Locally, the Explorer has been gaining traction as an adventure vehicle capable of excelling in the desert, thanks to a fully independent sport-tuned suspension with an upgraded front strut tower support, and wider wheels for top-of-the-line performance. The highly capable Terrain Management System, with specific sand setting, allows aggressive wheel spin, and inspires the spirit of adventure. With a choice of two engines, the 3.5L Ti-VCT or the 3.5L EcoBoost V6, the new 2016 Ford Explorer features cutting-edge technology including hands-free liftgate, enhanced active park assist with pull out assist, perpendicular park aid and side park sensors. Both variations of the new 2016 Ford Explorer are now available in showrooms across the Middle East and Africa.
