Salik Company P.J.S.C., the exclusive operator of Dubai’s road toll gates, has renewed its strategic partnership with US-based tolling technology company TransCore for another five years, supporting the continued development, efficiency and future readiness of Dubai’s tolling system.
The renewed agreement extends a partnership that dates back more than 18 years and will focus on the continued development of tolling systems and technologies. The collaboration is also expected to support Salik’s expansion into integrated payment and mobility services, including parking payments and other future mobility applications.
H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Salik, witnessed the signing. The agreement was signed by Ibrahim Al Haddad, Chief Executive Officer of Salik, and Whitt Hall, Chief Executive Officer of TransCore, in the presence of officials from both organisations.
Focus on advanced tolling technologies
Under the renewed contract, Salik and TransCore will continue developing systems and technologies that support tolling operations, with a focus on improving efficiency, reliability and operational performance.
The partnership will also explore the use of artificial intelligence and advanced digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency, improve system performance and strengthen the tolling system’s ability to respond to the evolving requirements of Dubai’s smart mobility ecosystem.
The agreement is expected to contribute to the development of Salik’s technology capabilities while supporting the efficiency of its broader portfolio. It will also facilitate the expansion of Salik’s payment platform into additional mobility services, including parking payments and other existing and future applications.
Supporting Salik’s mobility expansion
Ibrahim Al Haddad, Chief Executive Officer of Salik, said the contract renewal builds on a long-standing relationship based on technical expertise, innovation and collaboration.
He said the company plans to leverage artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and digital solutions over the next five years to enhance the performance and future readiness of its operations, while expanding Salik’s services across a wider range of mobility applications.
According to Al Haddad, the continued partnership is also intended to provide customers with greater convenience and more seamless services while supporting Dubai’s development of a smarter and more integrated mobility ecosystem.
Whitt Hall, Chief Executive Officer of TransCore, said the renewal reflects the two companies’ shared commitment to building on their long-standing collaboration.
He added that TransCore would continue leveraging its technical expertise and technological capabilities to support Salik’s ambitions and contribute to the development of Dubai’s tolling system in line with high standards of efficiency, quality and reliability.
Financial impact remains broadly unchanged
Salik said there has been no material change in the expected financial impact compared with the previous contract. Annual operating expenses are expected to remain at a similar level, ranging between 5% and 5.5% of total annual revenues.
The renewed agreement introduces enhancements to the contractual, operational and regulatory frameworks, including stronger requirements relating to sustainability, governance, cybersecurity, maintenance and business continuity.
It also takes into account Salik’s future expansion plans by providing for system upgrades to address requirements associated with existing services as well as potential future initiatives and activities.
Partnership dates back to 2006
Salik and TransCore began working together on Dubai’s tolling system in 2006, when TransCore contributed to the design and development of the emirate’s original tolling system.
Their cooperation has expanded over the years as Dubai’s tolling infrastructure and operational requirements have evolved, with the partnership increasingly incorporating technological development and system enhancements.
The latest renewal reflects Salik’s focus on technology, artificial intelligence and innovation as it develops its core tolling business and expands into wider mobility services.
The company said the partnership will support the continued advancement of Dubai’s tolling infrastructure, integrated payment solutions and Salik’s ability to respond to the emirate’s growing and evolving mobility requirements.
