Sadias Fit To Learn Campaign Covers 40 Schools in the UAE
Sadia, a pioneer in the frozen food industry, has launched a new initiative towards community development and education this quarter. A Fit to Learn campaign rolled out by the brand this year aims to raise awareness about obesity and unhealthy lifestyle among growing children. The approach was initiated across schools, homes and the community at large.
Obesity is a growing disorder among kids and teenagers in the UAE. Research states that 15% teenagers were overweight and 20% were obese in 2014. The main source of obesity is food choices; lack of physical activity among kids however factors like family lifestyle also plays an important role. Doctors in the UAE also fear growing obesity could lead to chronic conditions as adults. Diseases such as hypertension and diabetes are on the rise as well. The Fit To Learn campaign thus is here to reinforce the message of fitness at the grass-roots level.
Prevention is better than cure and hence this campaign is built around the concept of fun learning and education for teachers and children in schools, thereby reaching out to their parents and families. 40 schools across the UAE will participate in this massive community based awareness campaign.
There are several benefits to this campaign, one of them being education of the importance of eating right. Your wellness is considerably taken care of when your body receives the right composition of nutrients. Also in this campaign Sadia has tied up with seasoned panelists from diverse professional backgrounds, such as certified Dietitian and Health Promoter Hala Barghout, Chef Elie Harfouche and a professional Zumba Instructor Jed Latabe. Each of the panelists has an essential role towards raising awareness in this campaign.
Hala Barghout shared her thoughts on healthy eating habits and how to ensure kids enjoy what they eat in a timely manner. Chef Elie demonstrated a fun cooking workshop for kids to understand what they eat and help them learn to prepare easy and healthy meals. This workshop was followed by a healthy and exciting Zumba class where a professional dance instructor taught young students how to enjoy their exercises and to adopt an active lifestyle at an early age.
Fit to Learn Campaign will help students across the country to understand the value of (a) healthy mind and healthy body. It is important to hold such events in schools as it is in school (that) a child makes the base of his/ her life and learns to be a holistic world citizen. said Pooja Misra, from the DPS Academy, Dubai.
As of today, 4,483 students across 20 schools have benefited from Sadias Fit to Learn campaign. The campaign picked up great momentum among schools in Dubai. In the following weeks, the Fit to Learn campaign will be focusing on 10 schools in Sharjah and 10 schools in Abu Dhabi. This campaign has had a great impact on the teachers and children in the school as well as their family members.
The impact of such (a) campaign is that many would understand the importance of healthy food. Regular events of this kind will instill in the minds of the children the idea of having healthy food. If conducted regularly these sessions can eventually educate them about healthy food and its benefits. said Seema Sharda, from the Oxford School, Dubai.
Fit to learn is a small yet significant step towards creating a healthy school environment and community wellness. Sadia will continue to reach out to further 50 schools across the UAE this October. And the brand is also open to invitations to introduce the Fit To Learn Campaign among schools in the UAE.
