Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence Places Over 90 Master's and PhD Students in Global Internship Programme

Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has successfully placed more than 90 master's and PhD students in leading public, private, and multinational organizations as part of its career services and internship programme. This initiative is part of the university's commitment to providing practical experience for students pursuing careers in artificial intelligence (AI).

As the world’s first graduate AI university dedicated to research, MBZUAI emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience, requiring students studying disciplines such as computer science, computer vision (CV), machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and robotics to complete compulsory internships. This approach prepares students to meet the global demand for AI expertise in a rapidly expanding, tech-driven job market.

With support from MBZUAI’s career services and internships team, students have secured summer placements in prestigious institutions and organizations across Canada, China, Russia, and Pakistan. They are also interning at renowned academic institutions such as the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan, Johns Hopkins University in the US, and Microsoft Research Lab – Asia in China.

In addition to international placements, MBZUAI students are working with key UAE employers, including ADNOC, Etihad Airways, Core42, e&, Dubai Police, and Dubai Airports. They are also gaining experience at leading data companies and startups like LibrAI, Invertible AI, LABIB AI, Exafy, VisionLabs, and Mindware. The university's strong ties to industry and emphasis on practical experience are reflected in the fact that a significant number of its 212 alumni have chosen to stay and work in the UAE, contributing to the country’s growing AI ecosystem.

Prof Timothy Baldwin, Provost at MBZUAI, commented on the success of the programme, stating: “The increasing interest in AI as a driver of productivity and innovation has led to unprecedented collaboration between business and academia and a competitive market for AI talent. MBZUAI is at the forefront of this dynamic sector, and our students are prepared to make a significant impact with their industry-specific knowledge and research.”

MBZUAI’s career services and internships team offers personalized support, connecting students with opportunities to develop and implement their career plans. The team ensures that students are well-prepared for interviews and provides various avenues for industry partners to engage with students and alumni through events, workshops, and networking opportunities.
