MD & CEO of DEWA meets staff as part of Al Majlis open-door initiative
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has met a number of staff as part of the Al Majlis open-door initiative to strengthen relationships between management and staff. The Al Majlis initiative supports DEWAs efforts to enhance its open-door policy, where management meets with staff, listens to them, and exchanges views in all issues related to the work environment. The meeting was attended by Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications, Maryam Al-Mutaiwei, Vice President of Human Resources, and other DEWA officials.
At the beginning of the meeting, Al Tayer emphasised the importance of such meetings between higher management and staff. The Al Majlis initiative supports our vision to become a sustainable world-class utility. DEWA is committed to taking care of its staff and develop their job capabilities to improve efficiency and excellence. This in turn, enhances their job satisfaction and loyalty, said Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA provides different training and development programmes in the workplace. It spares no efforts to encourage its staff to improve their performance by taking up development and learning opportunities at DEWA.
It is important for new graduates to learn about DEWAs divisions and departments, which are directly linked to employees work roles. DEWA provides orientation programmes for new staff as well as on-the-job training. Adopting new technologies in the workplace improves performance. Al Majlis meetings help identify the challenges and difficulties that staff face. DEWA is committed to overcoming these obstacles and adopting the best solutions and practices to achieve the best performance for staff and for DEWA. Management is committed to strengthening trust and supporting creativity and innovation of old and new employees, noted Al Tayer.
Al Tayer had a friendly conversation with Emirati staff. He enquired about their job duties, the challenges they face, and their suggestions. Staff presented a number of suggestions related to improving skills of employees, each in his or her division or area of work. They highlighted the need for a clear career path and requested the flexible-hour system to be expanded to include more divisions and departments. One of the employees suggested establishing a centre at DEWA to recycle electronics and electrical appliances to reduce the carbon footprint and protect the environment.
Staff who participated in Al Majlis praised DEWA and its adoption of modern and advanced technologies across its projects and divisions. At the end of the meeting, they thanked Al Tayer for the chance to participate in such friendly meetings with management, which help to improve performance and achieve job satisfaction.
