Majid Al Futtaim Unveils AI-Inspired Public Art Gallery 'Dreamscapes' at Tilal Al Ghaf
Majid Al Futtaim has announced the finalists of ‘Dreamscapes: Envisioning the Future of Dubai with AI’, a groundbreaking design competition held in collaboration with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and the American University in Dubai (AUD). The competition culminates in a first-of-its-kind AI-inspired public art gallery displayed on hoardings at Tilal Al Ghaf, the developer’s flagship resort-style community in Dubai.
The winning entries were revealed at an awards ceremony at Distrikt, Tilal Al Ghaf, attended by Ahmed El Shamy, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Properties; Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts & Literature Sector at Dubai Culture; and Dr. Sabrina Joseph, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at AUD, alongside participating students.
Fostering Innovation and Collaboration
Ahmed El Shamy emphasized the importance of nurturing future generations for innovation, noting, “Supporting future generations is essential for driving innovation, and this competition exemplifies how collaboration between the private, public, and academic sectors can push creative boundaries. AI's role in architecture and urban design will help conceive sustainable, human-centric spaces meeting future needs.”
Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash highlighted the significance of the competition, stating, “Dubai continues to shape the future with initiatives leveraging technology and showcasing AI's importance. The Dreamscapes competition inspires future generations, enriching the local cultural and artistic scene.”
Award-Winning Designs
The top prize of AED 15,000 was awarded to Abbas AlObaidi for his design ‘Tomorrow's Horizons’, featuring the Burj Khalifa against a colorful sky, blending tradition with innovation. Ahmed Al Salman’s ‘Intertwine’, inspired by Zaha Hadid’s architectural style, won second place and AED 10,000, while Kareem Eid’s ‘Dynamic Quarters’, depicting a movable living complex with maglev train tracks, took third place and AED 5,000. Honorable mentions were given to Amira Kairatkyzy for ‘Eco Metropolis’ and Ayesha Alsuwaidi for ‘Tomorrow’.
Educational Integration and Future Vision
Integrated into the students' studies, the competition saw participation from over 150 AUD students, resulting in more than 250 futuristic artworks. The competition aimed to foster the next generation of design leaders by encouraging students to envision Dubai’s future, utilizing AI to create artistic representations of the city.
Dr. Sabrina Joseph of AUD remarked, “Our students are part of the next generation of architects, designers, and artists. This competition offered them the opportunity to shape Dubai's future visual identity, demonstrating the transformative potential of AI in design.”
Public Display and Documentary Release
All selected artworks will be displayed on billboards throughout Tilal Al Ghaf, enhancing the community's cultural landscape. Additionally, Majid Al Futtaim has released a documentary exploring the future of design and architecture in the age of AI, showcasing the synergy between human creativity and advanced technology.
