Magnom Properties Achieves Milestone with Forbes International Tower's Registration for ILFI Zero Carbon Certification
Magnom Properties, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Rawabi Holding, has set a new benchmark in sustainability by announcing that the Forbes International Tower is the first in the world to officially register for the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) Zero Carbon Certification. This landmark achievement brings Magnom Properties closer to realizing its vision of lifecycle net negative carbon for the futuristic Forbes International Tower, planned in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt.
The ILFI’s Zero Carbon Certification is a third-party verified, industry-recognized standard with stringent sustainability requirements to verify the operational and embodied carbon emissions of a built project, addressing the building sector’s role in the global climate crisis. By registering for this prestigious certification, the Forbes International Tower, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG Architecture), sets a new standard in green design construction and demonstrates a comprehensive approach to carbon neutrality.
The Forbes International Tower will generate power from 100% clean resources, being fully non-reliant on the conventional traditional grid. Clean hydrogen will supply 75% of the tower's energy needs, while integrated photovoltaic-laced design panels will provide the remaining 25% through solar energy.
Osman Ibrahim, CEO of Rawabi Holding and Vice Chairman of Magnom Properties, stated, “We are proud that Forbes International Tower has achieved this prestigious recognition in the real estate sector, reflecting the great work done by our global partners and team. At Rawabi Holding, we draw inspiration from the natural environment, and this is reflected in our projects and services. By utilizing renewable materials, sustainable energy sources, and making efficient use of space and resources, we aim to create best-in-class sustainability standards for the Forbes International Tower.”
Maged Marie, CEO of Magnom Properties, added, “The tower is a pioneering experiment in modern architectural engineering as it harnesses hydrogen to produce energy within the property. This unprecedented achievement will inspire real estate to innovate and transform project infrastructure development. By collaborating with our global partners and targeting the highest global green rating systems, the Forbes International Tower is shaping a new era of sustainability both regionally and globally.”
To achieve its net negative carbon vision, the Forbes International Tower focuses on judicious material sourcing and the use of sustainable alternatives in construction, reducing its carbon footprint by 58%, equivalent to 60 million kg of CO2 emissions. The tower also emphasizes recycling, with 75% of water usage accounted for by water recycling and treatment, and greywater reused for non-potable purposes. Low flush, low flow, and highly efficient sanitary fixtures and systems, along with rainwater collection and smart monitoring technologies, will reduce overall freshwater demand and ensure responsible water usage.
