Landmark FIA Report Highlights Major Progress in Sustainability and Diversity Initiatives
The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has released its 2025 Sustainability and Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Report, outlining significant achievements in advancing environmental sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation across global motorsport and mobility sectors.
The report highlights the FIA’s continued efforts to strengthen sustainability frameworks, improve accessibility, and promote greater participation across its worldwide network of member clubs, championships, and mobility organizations.
His Excellency Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, said the federation remains committed to building a more inclusive and sustainable future for motorsport and mobility worldwide.
“Our diversity is our strength. We will continue to innovate, strengthen frameworks, and raise standards to ensure motorsport and mobility become more sustainable, accessible, and reflective of the diverse global community we serve,” he said.
Key Sustainability Achievements
The report detailed several major environmental milestones achieved during 2025, including:
- Expansion of the FIA’s Environmental Accreditation Programme to more than 260 accredited organizations, marking a 37% year-on-year increase.
- Increase in sustainability grants by 24% to €340,000, supporting projects focused on emissions reduction, biodiversity, mobility access, and education.
- Approval of the first technical and safety regulations for liquid hydrogen-powered vehicles, representing a major advancement toward low-carbon motorsport.
- Participation of over 1,000 attendees in the FIA’s Sustainable Innovation Series.
In November 2025, the FIA also launched its first Sustainability Survey for member clubs worldwide to better understand regional sustainability priorities and challenges.
FIA Continues Decarbonisation Efforts
The federation reaffirmed its commitment to reducing absolute emissions by 2030. While overall emissions increased by 16% in 2025 due to organizational expansion and the opening of a new London office, the FIA reported notable improvements in several operational areas.
Key operational sustainability highlights included:
- A 2% reduction in logistics-related emissions through the use of HVO-powered DHL trucks across the European race calendar.
- A 22% reduction in logistics footprint impact supported by increased investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
The FIA acknowledged that rising emissions linked to business travel and large-scale events demonstrate the need for more targeted carbon reduction strategies across the motorsport ecosystem.
Diversity and Inclusion Progress
The report also showcased important progress in diversity and inclusion initiatives across motorsport.
The inaugural FIA Karting Arrive & Drive World Cup brought together more than 100 competitors from 50 nations, including a record 15 female drivers participating on the grid.
Within the FIA workforce, women represented 31% of total staff in 2025, with nearly half of female employees holding senior leadership positions, reflecting continued progress toward gender equity.
The FIA emphasized that promoting inclusion, strengthening career pathways, and expanding participation opportunities remain central to its long-term vision for the future of global motorsport and mobility.
