Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah Highlights AI-Driven Innovation to Streamline Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah showcased its latest initiatives aimed at eliminating bureaucracy in breast cancer diagnosis through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) at the 2024 Innovation Exhibition, themed Innovate for Health. This event, held under the Emirates Health Services (EHS), gathered department heads, hospital staff, and industry experts to highlight the critical role of innovation in healthcare and its alignment with the UAE’s long-term development goals.

Dr. Afra Salim, Director of Kuwait Hospital, stressed the importance of implementing innovative technologies to transform institutional practices in the healthcare sector. She emphasized that enhancing staff performance and fostering an environment that motivates innovation are key to achieving the UAE's sustainable development goals. The hospital's efforts align with the objectives of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme and the broader We the UAE 2031 vision, aiming to create a more efficient and technology-driven healthcare system.

Dr. Amina Al Jasmi, Director of the Radiology Department at EHS, spotlighted the "AI Diagnostic Radiology Examinations" initiative. By integrating AI into mammography, the hospital has reduced the timeframe for breast cancer diagnosis to under one day, allowing patients to receive results in just one visit. This advancement significantly enhances early disease detection and reduces healthcare costs, reflecting the broader goals of the UAE's vision for healthcare innovation.

In addition to AI-driven diagnostic tools, the hospital introduced an "AI Model for Evaluating Surgeons’ Performance," led by Dr. Sara AlShaya, Director of the Data and Statistics Department at EHS. This AI-powered evaluation model assesses surgeons based on 14 criteria, improving surgical outcomes, transparency, and decision-making processes. The model aligns with the UAE Centennial 2071 goals to enhance patient care and quality of life through advanced technologies.

The exhibition concluded with the presentation of new systems to improve emergency case handling and client satisfaction, showcasing the hospital's commitment to leveraging AI and innovation in healthcare delivery.
