Kaspersky Introduces "Who's Spying on Me" to Strengthen Digital Tracking Protection

Kaspersky, the renowned global cybersecurity firm, has expanded its efforts to combat digital tracking by introducing a groundbreaking feature called "Who's Spying on Me" in its Android applications. This innovative functionality provides users with protection against tracking, even without an internet connection, by detecting suspicious Bluetooth-enabled devices that could be used to monitor a person or object’s location.

A recent report on tracking software revealed that 40% of respondents globally suspect they have been tracked or are unsure about potential surveillance. In response, Kaspersky has upgraded its suite of Android apps, offering the new feature even in its free version to enhance user safety against digital tracking threats.

Comprehensive Tracking Protection Features
The "Who's Spying on Me" feature is a robust suite of functionalities designed to protect users from online and offline tracking. Its capabilities include:

  1. Spyware Scanner: Detects hidden spyware apps that can access sensitive data such as text messages, emails, photos, call logs, and location information. This functionality is now available in the free version of Kaspersky’s app.
  2. Device Scanner: Identifies Bluetooth tracking devices within a 100-meter radius, such as wireless trackers that could be used to monitor vehicles or other personal property.
  3. Risk Assessment: Categorizes detected Bluetooth devices (e.g., AirTags, SmartTags) and flags suspicious ones. For instance, devices with a fixed MAC address following the user with a strong signal will be highlighted.
  4. Permission Control: Alerts users to installed apps that have access to the phone’s camera, microphone, and location services, helping users manage these permissions effectively.

Through the app’s interface, users can view a list of suspicious devices nearby, compile a list of trusted devices, and receive weekly statistics about unique Bluetooth devices detected in their surroundings.

Commitment to User Privacy
Marina Titova, Vice President of Consumer Product Marketing at Kaspersky, commented:
"Kaspersky has always been at the forefront of combating tracking software, being the first in the industry to alert users to third-party tracking. As digital violence evolves with emerging tracking technologies, we recognize our users’ need for comprehensive protection. Our expanded app functionalities address these concerns, including offline tracking risks, and aim to enhance digital safety for our users."

Leading the Fight Against Tracking Software
Kaspersky became the first company to introduce spyware protection in its Android app in 2019. That same year, the company co-founded the "Coalition Against Stalkerware", a global initiative involving IT companies, NGOs, research institutions, and law enforcement agencies. The coalition raises awareness about tracking software abuse, supports online abuse victims, and fosters collaboration to combat digital violence. Since its inception with 10 founding members, the coalition has grown to include over 40 organizations.

Kaspersky continues to refine its mobile security solutions, with further enhancements scheduled for release in 2025 to offer even greater protection and improve user experience.
