Jordan’s TRC and RIPE NCC organise regional advanced IPv6 training in Amman

The RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), in collaboration with Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), has organised a specialised regional training programme on Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) aimed at strengthening network readiness and digital infrastructure resilience in Jordan and Syria.

The three-day programme, held in Amman, brought together representatives from telecommunications companies and internet service providers in both countries, alongside regional and international partners including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the GSMA, and the Arab Internet Service Providers Association (ARISPA).

Strengthening digital infrastructure and readiness

The training forms part of ongoing joint capacity-building initiatives under a Memorandum of Understanding between RIPE NCC and TRC. The collaboration reflects a shared vision to build a more secure, inclusive and resilient internet infrastructure across Jordan and the wider region.

Her Excellency Lara Al-Khatib, Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners at TRC, said hosting the programme demonstrates the regulator’s commitment to enhancing national and regional preparedness to modernise networks and improve efficiency.

She noted that IPv6 adoption has become a practical necessity to sustain internet growth and digital services, improve reliability and security, and prepare infrastructure for the evolving demands of the digital economy.

Hands-on technical capacity building

Dr Chafic Chaya, Regional Manager for Public Policy and Government Affairs at RIPE NCC, said the initiative aligns with the organisation’s strategy to support members in the region through capacity building and technical expertise, enabling a smooth transition to IPv6 while strengthening network stability and security.

The workshop programme was structured over three days. The first day focused on foundational concepts, including IPv6 fundamentals, its strategic importance, and deployment planning considerations. The second and third days delivered advanced, infrastructure-focused training covering configuration, deployment, routing and network security.

Participants engaged in practical exercises designed to support technical teams in preparing for upcoming deployment phases and ensuring an organised transition to IPv6.

Alignment with regional and global digital goals

The training also aligns with decisions of the Arab ICT Ministers Council and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the outcomes of the WSIS+20 process and the Global Digital Compact (GDC).

The initiative underscores both organisations’ commitment to advancing meaningful connectivity and digital transformation across the region.
